Ever wondered what the crests of the ships of
@indiannavy depict?
A ship's crest (or badge) serves as the vessel's distinctive insignia.
The previous thread covered Aircraft Carriers and guided-missile destroyers.
On to the guided-missile frigates and amphibious ships in this thread: (1/15)

@thisdayin_INCrest of INS Shivalik
Crest of INS Jalashwa
(2/15) The guided-missile frigates of the Shivalik-class are named after mountain ranges, the Talwar-class and the Teg-class after weapons, and the Brahmaputra-class and Godavari-class after rivers.

INS Shivalik (F47)
INS Talwar (F40)
INS Teg (F45)
INS Brahmaputra (F31)
(3/15) INS Shivalik’s (F47) crest has two blood stained curved swords called ‘Rama-dao’. The swords are distinctly broad and curved at their tips and were used in the Shivalik region during the 16th century. It shows the Grey outline of the mountain ranges over White and Blue sea waves on a Red background.

The crest of INS Satpura (F48) has two crossed swords called ‘Khanda’, used predominantly in the Satpura region in Central India. A slashing and cutting weapon, the blade was reinforced with narrow strips of steel running down the reverse side and several inches down the edge from the root. This gave the blade elasticity, lightness and strength. Brown mountain ranges with the White and Blue sea waves on a Red background, forms the rest of the crest.

INS Sahyadri’s (F49) crest has two crossed swords called ‘Gurj’. Used by the Maratha warriors, the swords have a crown blade at the tip wrapped around a spike. It is shown on the background of Blue sky, Brown mountain ranges and ocean waves.Image
