3. What is wrong with the "Voting Solutions for All People?" It sounds so perfect. If only the system was as good as the name. A coalition of good govt groups signed a letter detailing some of the problems that need to be addressed: img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/5275…#LAVotes#SecurityFail
4. Here are some of the most critical problems w/ the #LosAngeles#VSAP#Voting system.
- It does not use #HandMarkedPaperBallots - considered the most secure option by #security experts.
- It counts #votes with #QR codes. This is considered so risky that Colorado has banned it
- The ballot goes under the printer after the voter casts it, so the paper ballot can be changed if the machine is hacked. This is a betrayal to voters w/ #Disabilities who rely on ballot-marking devices. They deserve to know that their votes will be counted accurately. #LAVotes
6. Great reporting (as always) on this system by @KimZetter
" A recent study of a mock election using these kinds of devices found that ... voters missed more than 93 percent of the errors the machines introduced." politico.com/news/2020/03/0…#SecurityFail#LAVotes
7. @KimZetter covered something almost no one else discussed - the chilling & suspicious track record of the vendor #Smartmatic. "The company, founded in Florida in 1999 by Venezuelan engineers/ (its partner) received $200,000 from / an investment arm of the Venezuelan govt."
8. #Smartmatic is the main vendor for the #LosAngeles#Voting system, even though they built the voting system in #Venezuela "amid allegations that he [Chavez] and his supporters rigged the election." Wouldn't it be good if we could see that source code? #SecurityFail#LAVotes
9. @KimZetter continues, "In the Philippines/ [Smartmatic] was embroiled in further controversy in 2016/ Authorities /accused the company’s employees of altering a script on an election server without authorization as results were being transmitted during a national election."
10. "critics contended that votes in the race for vice president changed dramatically after the script change." politico.com/news/2020/03/0…
This is the company that built the voting system that millions of voters in LosAngeles are going to use.

There are concerns that the #election2024results have far more votes for #Trump than for each #Republican Senator in the same state. We did an exhaustive study of 17 states & found it true. We've released our study of this pattern we call #dropoff #SEDATA open.substack.com/pub/smartelect…
The #dropoffvote differences are enormous in the #SwingStates & still sizable in non-swing states. When combined together they total 1.2 million votes, more than half the presidential margin of victory. And this is only 17 states. If we analyzed them all, it would be much more.
In 5 of the 6 swing states we examined the #dropoff is greater than the presidential margin of victory. In #AZ the #Dropoff is 267,956 votes. The margin of victory is 187,382 votes.

🧵#Pennsylvania #Recount2024 & #Audit2024
PA #Senate race is going to require a recount.
"Under Pennsylvania law, a recount is automatically triggered when a race’s result falls within 0.5%" #Election2024spotlightpa.org/news/2024/11/p…
"As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Challenger Republican McCormick had 48.93% of the vote to Democrat Senator Casey’s 48.5%, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State’s website." electionreturns.pa.gov
"Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt, will order the recount by Nov. 14, [unless the trailing candidate declines]. The recount then must begin by Nov. 20, & results must be submitted to the secretary by Nov. 27"
"#Voters wouldn’t be able to examine their ballots using the machines, and their thermal paper records have been shown to become unreadable in six months. What could go wrong?"
@_rebeccaclewis does a superb & fair job showing the #ExpressVoteXL problems. cityandstateny.com/policy/2023/07…
Here it the full letter to @NYSBOE showing what happens to the #ExpressVoteXL summary card (there is no #ballot) when it comes in contact with hand sanitizer. #TotalMeltdown What happens in a #recount?
https://t.co/fVrdfwJ0kttinyurl.com/TechLetterAgai…
In that letter we give an example of how an #election could be accidentally programmed incorrectly. The wrong candidate could win & it would never be discovered in an audit. This is against #NY statutes.
This is because voters CANNOT verify BARCODES

Take a look at a form that we've developed to increase public confidence in election results:
At poll locations, with a poll watcher certificate, we check if the number of voters matches the number of ballots. At this location numbers matched perfectly. 198 voters /198 ballots.
New series: #MovieNight! Learn about the history of #ElectionProtection & have fun.
Academy-Award nominated director Dorothy Fadiman will be there to discuss her film: Stealing America.
We'll watch the film together on Zoom & share thoughts in the chat. us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regist…
It's so much fun to watch films together on zoom - and share thoughts in the chat. Way more fun than watching alone. This series will start at the beginning of the electronic #voting machine election security movement after HAVA was passed in 2002.

1. "The Election Assistance Commission on Wednesday voted to adopt the first comprehensive update to its voting system security guidelines in more than 15 years, concluding a lengthy process that ended with a mixed reception from some election security experts."
2. @SMART_elections wrote a letter to @EACgov that hundreds of others sent as well asking for a number of requirements, including:
- create a panel of technical election security experts, separate from NIST staff, with no financial relationship to vendors smartelections.us/write-the-eac
3. Other items we asked for:
- The EAC must set and meet the goal that by the end of 2022 40% of the Technical Guidance Development Committee will be made up of technologists and individuals with technology expertise.
- require digital ballot images to be public records
