Adhik Maas – A Month to Improve Yourself

The Science behind this month:

Indian #Panchang is based on the movement of #sun and #moon, that’s why it is called Lunisolar Panchang. As per the movement of the moon, one month is equal to 29.53 days and a lunar year

is equal to 354.37 days. A sun year is equal to 365 days. It means there is a difference of approximately 10 days between a lunar year and sun year. In three years, this difference becomes of 30 days, hence after every 3 years, one lunar month is added to the calendar.

To be precise, this lunar month is added after 32 months, 16 days and 8 hours to keep lunar and solar calendars aligned.

What This Month Means-
This ‘extra’ or added month is called #Adhikmaas, or #PurushottamMaas. This Adhik Maas is dedicated to Shri Hari Vishnu.

our mind and soul. Sun is the essence of our soul and Moon affects our mind, this month is inserted in the year to train our mind in such a way so as to align with the soul. It is the month to create a balance among our mind, body and the soul.

It is a month to create a balance between our effort and our luck. Your efforts in this month help to dampen the problems that might come your way in the next three years. Your luck as shown by planetary position and the remedies you want to undertake, is ten times more

effective in this month. Any hymn chanting, puja or any other karmic activity are ten times more effective during this time period. Any good deed done in Purushottam Maas gives us many times more good result in comparison to any other time period.

As per Narad Puran, if we intelligently or unintelligently chant mantras, Remain on fast, do holy bath and donation in this month, then it gives good results and ends previous bad karma and sin. There are no set rules and rituals for any worship and prayer in this month.

These four things are very important in Adhik Maas to create balance among mind, body and the soul: Fasting, Donation, Holy Bath and Mantra Chanting, including meditation.

purify our body and senses. Another meaning of Fast is, to spend more time with your Guru, mentor or anyone your think is more intelligent. Spending more time in religious activities is nurturing for the soul and it purifies our senses.  
All of us think donation

means giving away the money, but it is not correct. Our Holy Scriptures state the definition of donation as ‘giving anything that you have and is needed by someone’. Thus, if someone requires your time or compassion, giving that willingly is also a donation. #VastuShastra

states that every place has a particular energy. Our holy bathing places have an immense positive energy that increases manifolds during Adhik Maas, hence going to these places and bathing in a holy river or pond purifies your body.

Mantra Chanting & Meditation -
Chanting

of mantra purifies our mind and #meditation purifies our soul. Both of these purify our conscience. One should attain a higher level and understand the fact that ‘I am not this body but I am living in this body’.
