Getting this thread going on what races to donate to….
Right now, 44 days out, is the best time to donate. A few states are early voting. Voters are paying attention and can still register.
Campaigns can still hire staff and pay for strategic, targeted ads and mailers.
Money thrown at races in Oct goes into media spin. Unclear if it's effective at persuasion.
Millions of $$$ from out of state donors, raised by national orgs, doesn't mean your race is competitive. So it's doubly important for us to pick a few races/states and be strategic.
It's sweet to ragedonate for RBG. But it's smarter to flip the Senate, cement the House majority, and win key states in the electoral college. All states and races aren't equal.
A few thousand $ to a House race or $1 million to an underfunded Senate race can make the difference.
Unfortunately, people tend to donate to campaigns that already have a lot of money. Biden raised $350+ million in August. Mark Kelly, Amy McGrath, and Jaime Harrison had $30-50 million before this week.
For well-funded races: talk to friends and family and volunteer.
White male candidates tend to be extremely well funded. Funny how that works.
It's especially hard for first-time candidates to raise money. Your $25 or $50 or $100 goes a long way.
A lot of the incredibly diverse House freshman we elected in the midterms are targeted too.
The first focus is House flips: the red listings in the first two columns plus challengers in the GOP tossup. After that, Dem tossup races.
My recs are candidates I like who are not already swimming in cash.
I'm also giving to House candidates in states that have electoral votes up for grabs or a competitive Senate race. There's synergy up and down the ticket.
So Iowa and North Carolina and Michigan and even Texas and Alaska deserve extra love.
Help reelect #CA21@TJCoxCongress the last seat called in the midterms by the slimmest margin
Next week, I'll recommend organizations that are helping register and turnout voters in key races and swing states. Maybe we can get some matching donations.
44 days to go. It's going to take every one of us to get across the line.
So today I finally made it to #SoulofaNation, the new show on the 20th c African-American experience, at @deyoungmuseum. It's there through March. Don't miss it!
The first rooms are photos and montages from the early 1960s by Romare Bearden, Norman Lewis, and Ming Smith.
Oddly this show was curated by the Tate Museum in London. But the artists and subjects are all American, with many Bay Area connections. #soulofanation
A lot of the exhibit addresses the Vietnam war, as the civil rights movement evolves into black power. Topics like the KKK to police violence are just as relevant today as 50 years ago. #soulofanation
