What’s missing in this cogent (read it!) analysis of faux ‘strength’ is that it is central to the myth of (male?) Americanism put forth by (‘liberal’) Hollywood: the Clint Eastwood cowboy or avenger, going it “alone” with no show of inner turmoil much less inner REFLECTION.
And that myth ... the loner who dispenses violence in judgement... ties directly to Reagan’s mythology, which Trump plagiarized with MAGA.

theguardian.com/books/2013/mar…
Ironically: “Cattle herding was no place for free thinkers or independent minds. Like any other industrial-age enterprise, the cattle drive was built around guiding principles of centralized control, monotonous routines, and a disciplined labor force.” saturdayeveningpost.com/2020/01/the-ma…
An external “uniform of strength” represented as “tough” words steeped in violence (battle, war) is antithetical to any show of empathy (true leadership, which includes Jesus, whether or not he is myth). It is antithetical to inner life, much less inner growth.
But it’s easier to block off emotions and “soldier on” using whatever tool distracts from any nagging unease. Alcohol, drugs, sex (Trump), affairs (Trump), movies, spectator sports (Trump), TV (Trump), social media ‘addiction’ (Trump) ... an incomplete list of escape options.
Escape, delving into internal life is hard. Scary. Frustratingly ongoing. As is exploring a spiritual life (contrasted with pro forma ‘religion as another uniform’).

This requires free thinking. It requires introspection. It is the antithesis of true ‘cow herding.’
Given the rugged individualist myth (A MYTH: western explorers relied on one another & native Americans + western colonists relied on one another, see barn raising) which has permeated culture for decades. It has morphed into true belief via political propaganda.
The myth of self reliance dovetails with the myth of ‘good things happen if you’re good’ and the converse but that’s for another day.

Two major research studies this week fingered Trump as a primary source of disinformation: first COVID19 and then voting by mail. What do they have in common? Getting re-elected.
Cornell University researchers analyzed 38 million English-language articles about COVID19 and discovered that Trump was the largest driver of the “infodemic.”
nytimes.com/2020/09/30/us/…
Harvard Law School Professor Yochai Benkler plus researchers from the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society show that the vote-by-mail disinfo campaign is led by political elites like Trump & the GOO with mass media amplification.

The only thing a negative COVID19 test means is that when you took it, your viral load wasn’t high enough to be reliably measured. And there can be a 20% FALSE NEGATIVE three days after symptoms.

WE NEED FINES, RELIABLE PUBLIC HEALTH MESSAGES AND ELECTED REPS WHO GROK SCIENCE.
A negative COVID19 test does not mean you don’t have the disease. It means you probably didn’t have it five days ago.

Here’s @edyong209 @TheAtlantic on the risk to Biden on Tuesday and yes it is an “indictment” of the inexcusable behavior of elected “leaders” starting with Trump

It’s the first day of Pinktober and I managed not to think about it.

Here’s a post from last year about mastectomies and scars.

#breastcancer @double_whammied

life.wiredpen.com/2019/12/how-i-…
“Although almost half of mastectomies do not involve reconstruction, it turns out that too many of these surgeries do not leave the woman “flat.” It’s highly unlikely that the scars will be “flat” if the patient isn’t savvy enough to use that word pre-op. I didn’t know.”
There are lots of explanations for visually butchered bodies.

One is that breast surgeons often leave some excess skin “in case you change your mind.” There are a non-trivial number of surgeons who refuse to perform bilateral mastectomies, per stories in breast cancer groups. Image

THIS IS WHY THE GOP WORRIES ABOUT ELECTION FRAUD:

THEY DO IT.

“Nessel has charged Jack Burkman, 54, of Virginia and Jacob Wohl, 22, of California with election law and conspiracy crimes that would bring up to 24 years behind bars for each of them if convicted.”
Lock. Them. Up.
“This effort specifically targeted minority voters in an attempt to deter them from voting in the November election." ~ Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel (D)

Too many law-and-order Republicans would look the other way.
Burkman and Wahl apparently created/financed a robocall campaign targeted 12,000 MI residents (mostly urban) whose numbers used the 313 area code.

New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois AGs reported similar robocalls. 85k total.

Hanging chads, 2020-style.
First Virginia (absentee)
Then Georgia (in person)
Now New York (absentee)

Duplicate ballots in Virginia due to human error and printer labels bolloxing up the printer.

People cannot vote twice; should they, only the first will be counted.

Georgia's voting machines, which were installed just in time for the (COVID-delayed) primary, failed logic & accuracy testing last week. Georgia SOS says new software is needed but doesn't have time for independent testing; in-person voting starts Oct 12.

The experience of Hamilton County TX is a serious red flag for any rural county in the country.

Their IT consultant's response to a malware attack: change passwords. (Hint, it didn't work.) #Election2020

propublica.org/article/foreig…
The timely focus of this @propublica and @TexasTribune investigation was the "vulnerability of email systems in county offices that handle the voting process from registration to casting and counting ballots."
Smaller government agencies with fewer IT resources should be using "using cloud-based email and office software" which have built-in algorithms to neutralize bad actors. That's not what Hamilton County was doing.
