My week in 12 tweets

The past few weeks have been hectic and saddening especially with the rains wreaking havoc across states and communities from North to South as well as East to West.
We have also been witnesses to humanitarian disasters which have led to the loss of lives in different states. Our prayers, as always, are with the victims & their families even as we work hard to assuage their pain & ameliorate their losses.
On Monday, September 28th, 2020, @FMHDSD took time to clarify that the statement made by the Head of the ICPC regarding “N2.72b for School Feeding During Lockdown Diverted To Private Accounts” had nothing to do with our ministry. Our activities are transparent & above reproach.
On Tuesday September 29th, 2020 I was in Akwa Abom state for the flag off of the Conditional Cash Transfer programme at Holy Child Primary School, Nung Udoe Itak Ikono LG. 24,929 beneficiaries from 9 LGAs in the state will benefit.
I was in Lagos on the same day, where I held several meetings with various stakeholder groups during which we interacted on strategies to help achieve our multifarious mandates.
I met with members of private organisations as well as leaders in the business & development sector whose activities intersect with and impact on our disaster management, humanitarian affairs & social development mandates.
Our interactions focused on aligning private & public sector priorities while coordinating activities towards alleviating problems affecting the poor & vulnerable & rallying stakeholder support to boost FG's efforts in addressing challenges emanating from the #COVID19 pandemic.
I also took time to attend the virtual Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by HE @MBuhari during which important issues of the state were discussed even as we finalized preparations for the nation's 60th independence anniversary.
Tuesday, also witnessed the official launch of the unconditional Cash for Work Project in Lagos State by @UNDPNigeria in partnership with @FMHDSD @EUinNigeria @NigeriaGov @NGRPresident. It is a #COVID19 intervention to jumpstart the economy.
I held a robust interaction with senior editors in Lagos during which we discussed issues affecting @FMHDSD and the role of the media as a critical stakeholder.
On the same day, we welcomed Basheer Nura Alkali as the new Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
We wish him a successful tenure.
On Thursday, October 1, 2020, we celebrated the nation's 60th independence anniversary & marked The International Day of Older Persons. The theme of this year's commemoration is "Pandemics: Do they change how we address age and aging?"

Have a good week

My week in 13 tweets

My week began in earnest with my participation at the One-Day Retreat for Zonal Coordinators as well as Heads of Territorial & Operations Offices of @nemanigeria, with the theme: "Effective & Efficient Service Delivery at Operational Level"
I assured the participants that as the Minister with oversight for @nemanigeria I will continue to lead @FMHDSD towards the development of the appropriate initiatives for effective & efficient service delivery at all levels of management, especially at the operational levels.
On August 24, HE President @MBuhari approved the composition of the National Commission for People with Disabilities. It was a proud moment for me because this is a vulnerable population that is close to my heart who have now been entrusted with their own welfare.

Batch C affords us an opportunity to enrol a new set of beneficiaries who will be upskilled to prepare them for employability or entrepreneurship. It also offers us a pipeline of skilled workers who will be critical to jump-starting the economy post- #COVID19
Out of the 500,000 beneficiaries enrolled in Batch A & B, about 109,823 have proceeded to establish businesses in their communities underlining the impact and imperative of @npower_ng programme.
I want to thank the outgoing beneficiaries of Batch A & B for their service. They have been worthy ambassadors of @NSIP_NG and I look forward to many of them impacting the economy in positive ways.

This has been a particularly sad and challenging week for me and my colleagues as well as agencies under our ministry @FMHDSD.
On Tuesday May 26, 2020 I was in Maiduguri to commiserate and pay my condolences to victims and survivors of the Muna Albadawy IDP Camp fire
The tragic fire incident which occured on Saturday May 23, 2020 claimed 4 lives and razed valuable property. It was the 2nd such fire in an IDP camp in 2 months.
