I'm following along with the state of Nevada's COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force meeting - starting off with public comment, there was some feedback, but it sounds like the Nye County Commission is going to draft a plan to re-open brothels in the county
An attorney for the Chicken Ranch brothel says brothels have remained closed with "no rational basis provided for the continued closure."
Says there are "plenty" of skin-on-skin industries also currently open, such as dentists
Storey County Commissioner / brothel owner Lance Gilman also testifying during public comment, asking COVID Task Force to allow county to re-open his brothel, the Mustang Ranch
Gilman says the Mustang Ranch has developed a "significant mitigation and enforcement plan" that it has submitted to the state, but hasn't received any feedback on the plan since submitting it to the state
Chicken Ranch brothel general manager Trudy Kevoian says workers were not prepared to stay out of work for 8/9 months.
"We are probably more sanitized than any other place that is currently open."
Now, general manager of Dino's Lounge Kristin Bartolo says the AG's office informed her business that it can not operate private karaoke rooms, despite having plexiglass in front of stage and sanitizing microphones
Breakdown of how schools are treating re-opening:
Five are primarily in-person (Eureka, Esmerelda, Lincoln, Pershing White Pine)
Two primarily distance learning (Clark, Elko)
Other 10 are using hybrid models
State Biostatisician Kyra Morgan says state's 7-day moving average of COVID test positivity has started to increase since mid September. State raised capacity limits on events in late September
These are the proposed changes to NV's county-level COVID criteria - raising level of test positivity threshold from 7 to 8%, and lowering testing volume threshold down from 150 to 100 per day (per 100K residents)
Washoe and Humboldt County are the 2 counties in the state flagged for elevated COVID transmission. Even with new criteria, both counties would meet elevated threshold.
Nevada contract tracing update - about 21K cases found through contract tracing efforts, which is about 1/4 of total cases reported through pandemic
Washoe County Health Officer Kevin Dick says county's spike in cases started before opening of bars, and "we haven't really seen anything we can attribute to the bars reopening." Says about 1/4 of new cases are 18-24, and spike may be cases stemming from Labor Day gatherings
Dick says he's fully supportive of @Pres_Sandoval's decision to close UNR's fitness center, not allow fans at opening Wolf Pack football game & promotion of COVID Trace app
Dick also adds that the county has received several applications for large events/gatherings, but county is "backlogged" with disease investigation efforts and will likely release more info later today

On a Trump campaign press call with former NV Sen. @DeanHeller, who says this is his first press call in a year and a half. Says he now spends 80% of his time outdoors, and woke up at 5 a.m. this morning to move irrigation water, feed cows, and checking squirrel traps
@DeanHeller Heller says that Biden met his family when he was sworn in as a U.S. Senator. Said the former VP flirted with his 80 year old mother & couldn't keep his hand off his pregnant daughter's stomach ("She found it unusual...but she was not offended")
Heller says he also knew Sen. Kamala Harris while in the Senate, and googled her before the call to see her accomplishments and didn't see much that impressed him. "I think that's pretty telling from someone who's going to become vice president."
Here's a link to @GovSisolak's 5 p.m. press conference, where he will provide an "update on Phase 2 of the Nevada United: Roadmap to Recovery Plan." I'll be live-tweeting his remarks & @MichelleRindels
is covering in person nvleg.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.ph…
Sisolak is joined by COVID-19 Response Director Caleb Cage & DHHS administrator Julie Peek, who is leading contact tracing efforts
Sisolak:
Recently we've experienced some trends that require additional evaluation and analysis. This includes an upward trend in the number of new daily cases in the last three weeks
The three men charged with right-wing terrorist activity alleges that all 3 had military experience, self-identified as part of the "Boogaloo" movement and met at a "ReOpen Nevada" rally in Las Vegas earlier in April
The lawsuit alleges the three men planned to assault an unoccupied US. Forest Service Ranger Station & planned to destroy sub-stations/power plants near the AZ/NV border.
@GovSisolak is about to start his press conference on the state's "Road to Recovery" plan, which will include more details on the state's planned Phase 1 reopening. Livestream here:
Sisolak starts off by apologizing for giving impression that it was #nvleg's fault for issues with UI system, calls it a "long term structural challenge that is not the fault of our legislators."
Sisolak: core guiding priciples should be "Federally supported, state managed, and locally executed.”
