Hi. Let's talk about why the number of new daily infections matter. Come, walk with me.
Alberta announced 364 new cases of COVID-19 today. Record high. Sure, very few, if any, of these people will die. Few, if any, will be hospitalized. That's great! But all -- every single one of them -- are supposed to be isolating. And their close contacts must be isolating.
My simplistic take: If you care about the economy, you need to care about the number of people who are isolating. It messes with work, childcare, spending habits/ability, to name a few obvious examples. And that messes with other people's work, childcare, spending habits/ability.
For some, the damage caused by isolating will be zero. For some, it will be temporary or just annoying. For others, it cld be hugely damaging. Not all of us can wfh or take sick days.
And more cases = more risk = more restrictions = really, do I have to say it?
(And this ignores potential ~health~ damages - whether short-term or otherwise).
So, yes, new daily infections matter. It is not fear mongering to highlight them.
Oh, and here's the hospitalization/ICU numbers, while we're all here.

Edmonton is at a "crucial" juncture - Hinshaw
We must take action to slow COVID-19 spread, Hinshaw said.
And so here come the "voluntary" restrictions. 15 ppl max at gatherings, save for schools, theatres, worship services, or other thingies where an organizer ensure COVID rules are in place. - Hinshaw
Alberta will *temporarily* pay doctors the same amount to deliver virtual care as face-to-face visits. This will pacify Alberta docs who are very upset about Babylon. For now.
/tears up notes from previous reporting/
Background: Alberta introduced an online doctor dealio last week. The online doctors, who are licensed in Alberta but do not have to live here, on it would be paid $37 per online doctoring. But doctors practising in AB are only allowed to bill $20 for virtual care, like phone.
