Alberta will *temporarily* pay doctors the same amount to deliver virtual care as face-to-face visits. This will pacify Alberta docs who are very upset about Babylon. For now.
/tears up notes from previous reporting/
Background: Alberta introduced an online doctor dealio last week. The online doctors, who are licensed in Alberta but do not have to live here, on it would be paid $37 per online doctoring. But doctors practising in AB are only allowed to bill $20 for virtual care, like phone.
So Alberta docs were ticked. That's the short version. This will, for now, pacify docs. But the press release is very clear that this is temporary.
Some payment discrepancies may remain. But docs already calling it a step in the right direction.
