"I don't think it's safe." Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum says he's not comfortable with the current state of hospitalization and the spike in numbers
Dr. Dart says we have 33 ICU beds remaining in Tulsa now. He says as of yesterday, we had 183 people in the hospital in Tulsa #COVID19
Dr. Dart says there are more hospital beds available that are medical surgery beds nearly 133.
*However, hospital doctors and nurses have told @FOX23 those beds are NOT staffed to allow full usage right now
Statewide-760 in the hospital as of last night's executive order
Dr. Dart provides clarification to say their website is experiencing some issues with data. It shows there are 301 hospitalized in Tulsa right now. He says the actual number is 183 as of last night's report.
Mayor Bynum and Dr. Dart say they will be meeting with Tulsa (MORE)
hospital leaders to find out more about the shortage of hospital beds and find out what they need to do next.
As @FOX23 has reported, St. Francis and St. John have the MAJORITY of #coronavirus patients in Tulsa. Hillcrest hospital recently told us they have about 35. (MORE)
Dr. Dart says there are 183 in the hospital in Tulsa. Mayor Bynum says they will be talking with the State Health Department to find out what's happening with the surge bed contracts and if they have been renewed.
As I reported last week, they expired last month.
The contracts secured and provided an additional 245 hospital beds supplemented by CARES Act funding. Last week Lt. Colonel Stacy @HealthyOklahoma told me 60-70 beds of the 245 were being used at any one time.
As of last week, the surge contracts HAD NOT been renewed (MORE)
but Lt. Colonel Stacy told me they could be. We've reached out to State Health Department to see if they've renewed contracts as the state has 114 ICU beds remaining.
Here is the report I did last week when I asked state leaders about the bed shortage.

Finally- Tulsa Mayor @gtbynum and @CherokeeNation Chief @ChuckHoskin_Jr have both called for Oklahoma @GovStitt to order statewide mask mandate. Today Mayor Bynum reiterated since Tulsa suburbs refuse to pass mask mandates, they only other way to make it happen is Gov. to order
We are reaching out to the Governor's office to find out if the hospital bed shortage and increasing metro and rural #COVID19 cases will lead to him issuing an order.
In the past, he has repeatedly told us we need one and that everyone has to take personal responsibility.
CORRECTION: In the past, he has repeatedly told us we **DON'T** need one and that everyone has to take personal responsibility.
UPDATE: We've reached out to Governor Stitt's office to ask about the hospital bed shortage and about a letter State Democrats sent to him today. His Chief of Communications told @FOX23 they are headed to a meeting with the State Health Department now and will update us after.
Today we learned OKC does not have any ICU beds left. They DO have med. surgery beds that can be upgraded but healthcare executives say they are NOT STAFFED right now.
@KOCODillon reported this info told to the OKC City Council this morning re: ICU beds
This afternoon, we got an update in Tulsa from City/County officials. Dr. Dart says 183 people in the hospital right now in Tulsa. He said we have 33 ICU beds open. Dr. Dart says there are 133 medical surgery beds that can be upgraded to ICU beds, but health officials say
those beds ARE NOT current staffed.
