1. From my morning quiet time with God: [Jesus said:] "For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day...
2. "...No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day..." (John 6:40, 44)

These are comforting words, originally spoken to a disbelieving crowd who wanted Jesus to be a king who did their bidding, like modern-day...
3. ...political candidates pandering for votes. But Jesus wasn't out to win a popularity contest. He was offering all of us more than "a chicken in every pot and a Maserati in every garage."
4. He was telling the disbelieving crowd--and you and me--the truth: Born with the fatal preexisting condition of sin, we cannot save ourselves from sin, death, and condemnation. Without His help, we may get chicken-filled pots and Maserati-filled garages, but it won't "cure" us.
5. The wages of sin is still death and there's nothing we can do to avoid getting the payment we desrve.
But Jesus came into the world so that all who turn to Him in recognition of their need of saving and of Him as the one Who can save them will be raised...
6. ... from the dead to live with God eternally. Despite what we deserve--condemnation, Jesus covers those who trustingly turn to Him with His goodness, His righteousness.
7. This good news--what the Bible calls "gospel"--is more than simply a comfort for life beyond the grave.
The gospel empowers us for the living of each day on this earth. When eternity spills into our lives, God enables us to live with joy, peace, a sense of purpose,...
8. ... and compassion for our neighbors. When you know that Christ has secured the perfect, eternal sequel to this life, it changes how you approach this "prequel."
9. As God the Father prompts us by the power of God the Holy Spirit speaking God's Word, we can turn to Jesus and live with God...even today. Thats comforting.

Jesus has done everything needed for you to have new and eternal life with God. Turn to Him when He calls and that...
10. ...life will be yours, renewed each day, as you keep turning to Him.

1. I didn't watch the #DemocraticNationalConvention. But when I'd read allegations that the words "under God" were removed from the Pledge of Allegiance during the event, I looked into it. Here are clips from all four nights when the Pledge was recited.

Have you kept the Ten Commandments today? Me neither. catechism.cph.org/en/10-commandm…
That’s why we need Jesus, God the Son. He fulfilled all of God’s commands perfectly and bore the punishment we deserve on the cross. God the Father raised Him from the dead. All who repent and believe in Him share in Hus resurrected life.
It doesn’t depend on our being good enough. We’re not. I’m not. We’re saved from sin, death, and condemnation by the power of God’s grace creating faith in Jesus in us.

Today is the feast day of the misunderstood #MaryMagdalene. While Jesus offered forgiveness and new life to all sorts of sinners (like me and whether you realize it or not, you), including prostitutes, Mary was not a one-time prostitute. Jesus freed her of demonic possession...
...She became a devoted disciple of Jesus and a preacher of the good news: the gospel of new and everlasting life with God for all who repent and believe in Jesus. Belief in Jesus—faith—is God’s gift, not our doing, to those in whom the Gospel Word takes root...
...”The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent,” Jesus, the One sent by God the Father, says. We are saved from sin, death, and the prisons of self by a faith in Jesus that God gives to us...

1. An update: You and I are born in the condition of sin, which is our separation from God (and other people) that causes us to always want our own ways and to commit specific sins. Our sin condition means we're born to die.
2. But God hasn't given up on us! God the Son came into our world. His name is Jesus. He led a sinless life, then offered Himself on the cross. Jesus has done everything needed to erase the power of sin and death over our lives.
3. Our call is to turn from sin (this is what the Bible calls repentance) and trust in Jesus. He's done everything for us already. He also sends the Holy Spirit to help us believe that this good news of new and eternal life through faith in Jesus is true.

Why do pastors tweet their politics? Jesus is bigger than your political preferences. Pastors who do this harm the cause of Christ. Jesus is not a Republican, Democrat, liberal, conservative, libertarian, socialist. He's God enfleshed!
As several have tweeted lately, the American Church is far too politicized and far too little "gospelized."
The "gospel" or "good news," just to remind everyone is nutshelled by Jesus in John 3:16 (that's in the Bible):

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

We've been involved in a weeknight study of the Gospel of Matthew on Facebook Live. We were unable to use the study of chapter 1. But here, in a thread, are all of the studies so far.
