If you skipped it last week, I urge you to read the @FT analysis, "Will American tear itself apart?"

This point is not made NEARLY often enough: "conservative" GOP women who advocate for "traditional" family hierarchy except in their own homes. #AmyComeyBarrett #rbglegacy Image
"What then can be done to avert a US constitutional meltdown? The distressing answer is very little... the last memorable [amendment] was passed in 1971, when America’s 26th amendment reduced the voting age to 18."
@EdwardGLuce @FT

ft.com/content/b159bc…
"The last serious [amendment] was the 25th amendment in 1965, which enabled a US president to be removed because of incapacity." @EdwardGLuce

Yet in 2020, GOP leadership has refused to consider it despite the evidence of their own eyes and ears. Power trumps country.
THIS IS EVIL:
"Should Barrett have donned her robes, that would mean a third of the court—including John Roberts, the chief justice, and Brett Kavanaugh, who joined in 2018—had worked as legal aides on Bush’s 2000 campaign."

The one where the SCOTUS gave him the presidency. @FT
“Change in America has usually come from breaking the constitution rather than adhering to it — up to and including war. Not many constitutional scholars talk about that.” Sanford Levinson, UT law school @FT Image
"Originalism is a license to be creative." Eric Posner @FT

A pox on #AmyConeyBarrett's house but especially on #MitchMcConnellTheTraitor Image
Yes, Jefferson said this: each generation should update the constitution.
newrepublic.com/article/63773/… ImageImage
The combination of gerrymandering and failure to expand the House to match the growth in US population means that we are living with the tyranny of the MINORITY not tyranny of the majority.

That's why GOP candidates cannot win the presidency with a majority of the votes.
In 2016, 17% of the US population could select the majority of the US Senate.

In 2013, the @nytimes noted: six senators from CA, TX, and NY represented the same number of people as 62 senators from the smallest 31 states.

nytimes.com/2016/11/21/ups… Image
The 70-30 Senate ratio (70% of seats held by 30% of the population) has been relatively constant through history.

What changed in the 20th century was the House. The 1929 law that authorized the 1930 census also capped the size of the House at 435.

pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018…
And we are an outlier among our peers, per @pewresearch

The House needs expanding. If the population of WY was the base figure, there would be 545 - 560 representatives after the 2020 census.

pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018… Image
Expanding the House won't help the Senate, but it sure as hell would help the Electoral College.

Originally designed to give power to slave states, today's EC cements power in minority, rural states.

We are divided as seriously as in 1860. Can we survive without conflict?

Awesome skies driving south on I5 from Lynnwood from 10.52- 10.57

Very low cloud cover over Seattle but you can see the skyline (last photo) from I5 bridge

That low, straight cloud edge was still present after the rain stopped, 12.53, northbound now. No, I’m not driving!

The headlines about Meadows and Trump and the "declassifying" tweet are misleading.

'MEADOWS SAID THAT TRUMP TOLD HIM'... is not the same thing as "Trump didn’t declassify Russia docs in tweets"

"MEADOWS SAID THAT TRUMP SAID" IS HEARSAY. Even if ostensibly under oath.
MOREOVER, Judge Walton has scheduled a hearing for Wed to address his claim.

Nothing truthful comes out of this White House.

Trump is not consistent; he's likely to tweet the same stuff next week. Is it "a lie" then? Or only a lie until Meadows sits him down for a chat?
REMINDER, missing from news stories:

TRUMP ON 10/6: MANIC
"I have fully authorized the total Declassification of any & all documents"

The "declassification" tweet (8:41 pm EST) was part of Twitter rampage: 42 tweets and retweets in less than an hour.

I have no words.
Trump has scared these people into voting in person - when you can vote in Georgia by absentee with no excuse.

This is #voterSuppression but it's not the total story.

GA CHANGED THE BASE CODE ON ITS VOTING MACHINES LAST WEEK. DESPITE A COURT CHALLENGE.
GA has a brand new touchscreen voting system that malfunctioned in testing.

"the update was distributed to county election officials last week with instructions to install it on their machines."

EVERY ONE NEEDS TO VOTE ON PAPER.

washingtonpost.com/national/with-…
Voting machines BARELY delivered in time for primary, which was delayed due to COVID-19.

The GA Sec of State's office has a piss-poor record: their data center destroyed two hard drives with 2016 records WHILE THE ELECTION WAS BEING CHALLENGED IN COURT.

USE AN OFFICIAL BALLOT DROP BOX OR THE MAIL.

In 2020, GOP has set up FAKE, ILLEGAL DROP BOXES in CA.
In 2018, GOP candidate door-knocked and tossed ballots in NC.
In 2012, GOP door-knocked in King County, WA, offering to deliver ballots.

GOP: Party of Corruption.
The CA GOP has gone so far as to label their FAKE AND ILLEGAL drop boxes as “Official ballot drop-off box.”

So, yeah, President Trump. There may be problems with mail in ballots BECAUSE YOUR PARTY COULD BE STEALING THEM.
Ballot envelopes have the name of the voter on the outside. If a voter has declared a party, that information is part of their voter registration record.

Dear @TIME:
US media get to point fingers ONLY AFTER OUR HOUSE IS IN ORDER. Focus on our own systemic racism.
For example, from @statnews last month:

For example

More than 10 percent of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has had the coronavirus, and the tribe is bracing for a second wave and more devastation.

Trump violated health advisories and the staff who helped put this together violated the Hatch Act.

How can we expect normal people to follow public health advisories when the president (plus other GOP politicians) flouts them?

#TrumpCorruptToTheCore
#VoteHimOut
The Hatch Act of 1939, An Act to Prevent Pernicious Political Activities, prohibits civil service employees in the executive branch from engaging in political campaign activities "while the employee is on duty, in any federal room or building"
osc.gov/Services/Pages…
Trump has thumbed his nose at political mores by holding multiple campaign events at the White House.
