Here's today's snapshot of each state's progress in reducing COVID cases/hospitalizations/death, via covidexitstrategy.org

Green is trending better.

Yellow is caution warranted.

Red is going downhill.

Bruised red is uncontrolled spread.
I look through the data on this site every Monday to see how we're looking compared to the previous Monday.

Overall, we are doing worse. Here's last Monday vs this Monday (last night).
By nearly all of these metrics, we're doing worse nationally.
Out of all 50 states, New Mexico and Illinois seeing the biggest spikes in positive COVID cases in the last 2 weeks.

131% and 81%, respectively.
There are still only 2 states in the country trending better right now: Maine and Vermont.

They've been the only 2 trending better for weeks now.
Here's another way to measure how we're doing: how each state is doing on testing.

New England is looking good. Everywhere else, not so much.

Rep. Clyburn, chair of the House S/C on coronavirus crisis, just released 6 weeks of WH Coronavirus Task Force reports obtained by the committee showing the WH was aware of an alarming rise in COVID cases as Trump publicly downplayed it and held crowded events.
The reports show the WH knew after Labor Day that COVID cases were spiking but chose to hide the reports, says the committee.

Meanwhile, Trump was saying COVID “affects virtually nobody” + hosted potential superspreaders in states the WH task force warned had rising cases.
The White House task force reports specifically warned of rising COVID cases in Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Carolina -- all places that Trump went ahead and held potential superspreader events in anyway.

We've reached the [insert extreme adjective because I've run out] point in the election cycle when Ted Cruz is a self-described "TOP" Trump supporter who is hawking his book to raise money for Trump.
This tweet is still up btw.
"I don't want his endorsement. Just, Ted, stay home, relax, enjoy yourself."

There is something rich (& infuriating) about Karen Pence trying to make mental health & suicide prevention her signature issue when she works at a school that bans LGBTQ teachers and kids.

LGB kids consider suicide at almost 3 times the rate of hetero kids, per Trevor Project.
Look at these stats on LGBT youth and suicide rates, via The Trevor Project. Devastating. thetrevorproject.org/resources/prev…
Meanwhile, the school Karen Pence continues to teach at discriminates against LGBTQ people in its job application and says LGBTQ kids aren’t welcome.

Today is the last day of the 2020 Census count. The Supreme Court rejected a lower court's order to extend the count after serious delays because of COVID.

This makes it easier for Trump to not count lots of people, esp minorities + tribes. This is what he's been trying to do.
This is easily the most damaging development this week outta the Trump admin.

This final stage of the census count is the only stage being cut short. It's the most crucial part for reaching "hard-to-count populations." Which largely happen to be... communities of color.
Non-English speakers + low-income people are among the hardest people to count.

They rely on census takers coming to their homes in this final stage of the count to do “nonresponse follow-ups" b/c they didn't respond via the internet, by phone or mail.

Good morning! ☕️ Senators' time is up for Qs with Amy Coney Barrett and the Judiciary committee will vote to send her nomination to the Senate floor on Oct. 22 at 1 pm.

Also this exchange happened last night, so... yeah.
Sen. Mike Lee is currently raising his voice about the "abominable treatment" of Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing.

Were we watching the same hearing? He shouted, wailed, lashed out at members of the committee, straight up lied about little and big things.
"Y'all have a good chance of winning the White House," Lindsey Graham tells Democrats on the Judiciary Committee.

How long til Trump trashes Graham?

Day 3 of Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearing.

Dianne Feinstein opens, again, with family talk.

"I'm delighted to see your family here again. I hope they feel that very special sense of pride in you.... I was thinking of my children and grandchild."
Progressives have been fuming at Dems like Feinstein for treating this situation as business as usual.

“It’s becoming increasingly clear that Democrats are not doing enough to show that this is an illegitimate process w/ an illegitimate nominee." huffpost.com/entry/democrat…
Barrett, again, won't say whether a president can unilaterally delay an election.

She says she won't discuss “legal hypotheticals."
