Deputy Chief Armstrong says OPD is stretched thin. Speaks to multiple murders, children hiding under tables, hearing the shots from his own house, and apprehending a hostage-taker who was responsible for a double homicide. This was all this week. #oakmtg

I wonder about Armstrong, and how often he is used as the token Black Oakland resident on the force. I don't doubt that he cares about his community. But the press conference and having him be the spokesman is a clever way to try to regain the public's favor right now. #oakmtg

Paul Chambers, OPD PIO, shows us another video. It's a campaign they are running on active missing cases. They will also run a social campaign about having a diverse force, and Aaron Smith is handling that. #oakmtg

They show a video interviewing one of the 2 Black women joining OPD in the latest recruiting round. They are the only two Black women in the pipeline IIRC from previous meetings. #oakmtg

Durado asks about sustainability of campaigns and recruitment initiatives. Manheimer says they are putting infrastructure in place to maintain it. Manheimer also denies connections between boogaloo and OPD. #oakmtg

Seems like OPD is planning to really pour money into marketing because police in general have a PR problem. I think using social media to help with missing persons is actually useful. #oakmtg

Manheimer says she is surprised people of color are in white supremacist and radical right-wing groups after seeing what happened in SF last weekend. Chair Jackson reminds Manheimer she owes her a report about how mentoring Black female recruits will work. #oakmtg
