Watching this debate shows the trajectory that this country has been destined for from its onset. A nation founded on genocide, built on slavery, and empowered through imperialism now finds itself in an ever-increasing state of decadence. #Debates2020 #PresidentialDebate2020

The current president and a former vice-president spoke tonight about children in cages at our borders who will likely never see their parents again as a talking point, not a concern. #Debates2020 #PresidentialDebate2020

The majority of their respective statements are rooted in pointing out the failures and weaknesses in the other, not in highlighting their own strengths and successes. #Debates2020 #PresidentialDebate2020

Their comments on race and class in general and Black experience in the United States in specific show how disconnected leadership of this country is from so many of the millions of people who live in it. #Debates2020 #PresidentialDebate2020

The fact that they both are standing on this stage shows how far this country has to go in breaking the systems that favor every box of privilege that both of these elderly, white males check off along with so many others since those systems were first established. #Debates2020

There is no way that either of them are the best leaders that this country can produce, but they are illustrative of the types of leaders that America currently allows. #Debates2020 #PresidentialDebate2020

Let us Pray - All Mighty God, Giver of Life and Guider of Hearts, bless this gathering and all those who are in it. We come today to remember all those who we have lost, who have fallen ill, and whose lives have been impacted by COVID-19, the coronavirus.

Make us from amongst those who carry and honor them always and take lessons from this time that we find ourselves in.

I found myself earlier today after Fajr watching my wife Priya in a deep sleep that broke itself whenever a sound was made from beyond our bedroom door, her thoughts instinctively bringing her attention to our son and daughter and getting up to see if they were ok. (Thread)

Aside from realizing how blessed I am to be married to the woman that I am married to, it reminds me of a day about six years ago, before our son Kareem was born, where Priya and I were in California with our daughter Madina.

And it reminds me of how my understanding of God changed a lot after seeing my wife be a mother to our children.

Some clarifications on our emergency funeral fund campaign (thread)

It came to my attention that some people were confused by various messages circulating online regarding Muslim funeral services in the NYC area and how it related to our campaign.

It is a difficult time for a lot of us, especially those who have lost loved ones or are fearful of losing someone. Not knowing what is taking place can heighten anxiety. If anything from my end added to that for any of you, please do forgive me for that.

Domestic violence is never ok.

I've met hundreds of women who have come to see me over the years who were in abusive relationships and a constant request from many of them is to pray for them and ask others to as well. Here are the stories of four of these women. (Thread) #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth

I request you to read them in their entirety with an open heart and real love. Then, as this night begins to enter into its late hours, I would ask you all to join me in praying for each one of these women as well as the thousands of others who have similar stories.
