RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki is not the only federal official who has defended RCMP's performance in NS. Last week on @TheWestBlock Public Safety Min @BillBlair did too saying police had a tough job & were doing their best with limited resources globalnews.ca/news/7404283/b…#cdnpoli
Blair, though, said he has “some sympathy” for “how difficult the job of the police is in these circumstances.”
“But I think it’s also critical that they be effective on the ground, that they take every step necessary to prevent acts of violence and criminality, to keep people safe, to preserve the peace while this work is going on.”
In an interview with The West Block’s Mercedes Stephenson, Blair said police have been “on scene right from the outset,” and “in significant numbers.”
“If you look at the actual circumstances, where a few hundred people came into conflict and the officers on the ground, you know, utilized their authorities and their limited resources to try to separate the combatants,” he said.
“But they also gathered evidence,” he continued. “There were acts of criminality that took place there, and the police have done their job of laying the charges...."
"... In large crowd events like that, sometimes it’s very difficult to prevent every altercation and act of violence that can take place.”
“The police — as I said — have got a tough job to do.”

Singh is asked precisely what his words mean - how will be be voting today?
Singh says "we will be voting for Canadians"
Waiting for follow up on so does that mean you're voting against the Oppo motion or abstaining
Singh keeps repeating they won't give the PM an election but refuses to say if that means abstaining from voting or voting against Oppo day motion "we are looking at options"
"We will be voting against an election" but Singh still refuses to clarify if this means voting against oppo motion or abstaining. A little weird he won't just say.
NDP leader @theJagmeetSingh is giving a press conference now. Singh says PM wants an election and that shows he is disconnected from people "New Democrats will not give the PM the election he is looking for. We will not give him an excuse or a cover." #cdnpoli
Unclear what that means exactly for the vote but doesn't sound like NDP is leaning toward supporting oppo day motion.
"We are going to continue to do the work that we are here to do and use the tools in committee to make sure the government isn't using money to help their rich friends" Singh than says time for a universal drug plan and help for seniors in LTC #cdnpoli
Reading some of the court docs on the alleged militia conspiracy to kidnap the Governor of Michigan. "In early 2020, the FBI became aware through social media that a group of individuals were discussing the violent overthrow of certain government and law-enforcement
components."
"The militia group had already been brought to the attention of the FBI by a local police department in March 2020, when members of the militia group were attempting to obtain the addresses of local law-enforcement officers."
"At the time, the FBI interviewed a member of
the militia group who was concerned about the group’s plans to target and kill police officers, and that person agreed to become a CHS."
Statistics Canada has just released its report on sexual assault, sexualized behaviours and discriminatory behaviours at Royal Military College in 2019. I will tweet some of the findings. #CAF

#Breaking Global News has learned a major police operation is underway in Quebec this morning involving RCMP, Canadian Special Operations Command’s - CJIRU - experts who deal with chem, bio, radiological, and Public Health. This is the ricin letters (White House) investigation.
I believe this is the first time there has been public reporting of CJIRU - a special forces chem, bio, radiological counter terrorism unit - being active in Canada. That's not to say they have not been before, just first public reporting.
RCMP confirm @globalnews report of the operation in Quebec
#Breaking US Ricin investigation: RCMP statement to @globalnews confirms RCMP received a request for assistance from the FBI in connection with a suspicious letter sent to the White House.
"Initial information from the investigation suggests that the letter originated in Canada"
RCMP statement: The FBI conducted an analysis on the substance found in the envelope. This report indicated the presence of ricin, a toxic substance.
The RCMP is working with the FBI on this investigation. We cannot offer more details at this time.
Adding - use of confirm here - it confirms US media reports the FBI believed the letter came from Canada - but this is the first word we've had from the RCMP.
