Abū al-Qāsim Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh Born approximately 570 CE in Mecca during Year of the Elephant, which is named after the failed destruction of Mecca that year by the Abraha, Yemen's king, who supplemented his army with elephants.
Muhammad's father, Abdullah, died almost six months before he was born. According to Islamic tradition, soon after birth he was sent into the desert as a baby by his mother Aminah. When Muhammad was six years old, he was reunited with Aminah but 1 month later she died.
until he was eight years old, Muhammad was under the guardianship of his uncle Abu Talib, leader of the Banu Hashim. His uncle saw that he did not starve to death, but it was hard for them to do more, as the fortunes of the clan of Hashim seem to have been declining at that time.
Abu Talib acted as a protector to Muhammad. After Muhammad began preaching the message of Islam, members of the other Qurayshite clans increasingly came to feel threatened by Muḥammad
Islamic tradition states that when Muhammad was either nine or twelve while accompanying the Meccans' caravan to Syria, he met a Christian monk or hermit named Bahira who is said to have foreseen Muhammad's career as a prophet of God.
His reputation attracted a proposal in 595 from Khadijah, a successful businesswoman. Muhammad consented to the marriage, which by all accounts was a happy one. Mhd. Started to have Qur'anic revelation begins in the Cave of Hira At age 40, by Angel Jebreel (Gabriel)
Muhammad was deeply distressed upon receiving his first revelations. After returning home, Muhammad was consoled and reassured by Khadijah and her Christian cousin, Waraka ibn Nawfal. Muhammad warn those who rejected God's revelationand instructs them not to worship god idols.
According to Muslim tradition, Muhammad's wife Khadija was the first to believe he was a prophet. She was followed by Muhammad's ten-year-old cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib, close friend Abu Bakr, and adopted son Zaid.
Muhammad started public preaching. As his followers increased, Muhammad became a threat to the local tribes especially offensive to his own tribe, the Quraysh, as they were the guardians of the Ka'aba. Muhammad's wife Khadijah and uncle Abu Talib both died in 619.
Mohd. Had 4 daughters with Khadija. Zainab, his first daughter, followed by: Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum, and Fatima Zahra but all of them died in their youth max till age of 30.
Zainab, the eldest of the three, was married to one Abul-As ibn Ar-Rabi of Makkah. This man fought against the Prophet in the battle of Badr, and was captured by the Muslims. To ransom his freedom, his wife sent to the Prophet, a necklace which at one time had belonged to Khadija
The death of Khadija and Abu Talib placed Muhammad in danger; the withdrawal of clan protection implied that blood revenge for his killing would not be exacted. Many people visited Mecca on business or as pilgrims to the Kaaba Muhammad took this opportunity to look for a new home
After several unsuccessful negotiations, he found hope with some men from Yathrib (later called Medina). The Arab population of Yathrib were familiar with monotheism and were prepared for the appearance of a prophet because a Jewish community existed there.
Muhammad was monogamous for 25 years when married to his first wife, Khadija bint Khuwaylid. After her death in 619 CE, he over time married a number of women. Of his 13 wives, only two bore him children: Khadija and Maria, but all of them died young.
The objectives of Muhammad's marriages have been described as
-Helping out the widows of his companions.
-Creating family bonds between him and his companions and other clans.
With the exception of Aisha, Muhammad only married widows and divorcées or captives.
The first group of converts to Islam in Medina were the clans without great leaders; these clans had been subjugated by hostile leaders from outside. In 630, Muhammad marched on Mecca with 10,000 Muslim converts. With minimal casualties, Muhammad seized control of Mecca.
A few months after the farewell pilgrimage, Muhammad fell ill and suffered for several days with medinian fever, exacerbated by physical and mental fatigue in 632 in Medina, at the age of 62 or 63, in the house of his wife Aisha. He was buried where he died in Aisha's house.
Muhammad united several of the tribes of Arabia into a single Arab Muslim religious polity in the last years of his life. With Muhammad's death, disagreement broke out over who his successor which is relevant till today.
