The attacker in Avignon was apparently from the far right group Generation Identity.

This is how Robert Spencer - the man banned from entering the UK due to his extremism - tweeted about it.
He wasn't alone. Many others seem to have jumped to conclusions about Avignon.
The Sun & Mail Online too. This happens far too often.

Accuracy generally, & especially on stories related to attacks like this, is vital.

If we don't know yet, it can be highlighted that we don't know.
Note this happens too: "Under a false profile of radical Islamist, a Toulousain defends terrorism and ends up in prison"
20minutes.fr/justice/289237…
None of this should stop reporting of this attack at Avignon - nor of the facts of the horrific (and significantly worse) Nice attacks.

But is it too much to expect that the reporting is accurate?

What's disappointing Peter *still* seems to not know why this is so wrong

The question implies that due to Tarek's Muslimness, Peter thinks there is chance he might be okay with a gruesome beheading & he must disassociate himself to *prove* that's not true

This is not okay
Given the gruesome murder is so horrific, it is easy to think: "who wouldn't want to speak out against it"

But most people - especially those in positions of authority & influence - know how wrong it is to assume collective responsibility.
Why should an ordinary Muslim here, *have* to say he disagrees with a disgusting murder?

Do all white people have to say they disagree about all disgusting white murders? Or terrorist acts? Or state overreach? Or white supremacy? Or...

The Jewish Chronicle *again* lied about Muslims

The paper falsely accused Nada al-Sanjari of
- Inviting an antisemitic activist
- Turned a blind eye to antisemitic statements
- Launched a vicious protest against Luciana

All lies. They've been forced to apologise & pay libel
This can be found here: thejc.com/news/uk/nada-a…

It was thanks to Carter Ruck, with Nada represented by Adam Tudor & Helena Shipman.

They note that Stephen Pollard & Lee Harpin apologised to Nada - although I can't see the above link on @lmharpin's Twitter feed.
It is unfortunately the latest in a long line of appalling articles by the Jewish Chronicle related to Muslims

Here is an example of Lee Harpin lying about @MuslimCouncil, which was then corrected

In May, Katie Hopkins lied, falsely linking criminals to @FPMosque

After the mosque's perseverance, she apologised on Instagaram *at midnight* & acknowledged "the contributions made by the Mosque to society"

Lies cannot be spread with impunity. Great work @FPMosque! Image
Finsbury Park Msoque has tweeted about it (
), and their full statement is on this site

A Saudi-coalition airstrike on a family home in Yemen murdered women & children in the latest evidence of potential war crimes (Sky)

Yet the UK gvt continues to provide arms & support Saudi's campaign in Yemen, the world's *largest* humanitarian disaster!
news.sky.com/story/yemen-ev…
As @AlexCrawfordSky reported last week, Yemen children's hospitals are the 'closest thing to hell on Earth'.

Our UK government continues its weapon sales and support for the Saudi regime and its allies, whilst 80% of the population are reliant on aid

ICYMI: The United Nations (via the Group of Eminent International and Regional Experts on Yemen) called out the UK as one of the countries perpetuating the conflict due to its weapon sales to the Saudi regime & its allies (Page 5)

Charles Moore as chair of the BBC is scary for many reasons, one of which is his awful views on Muslims

See thread here:

It is shocking someone like this is even in the running & it is indicative of how entrenched Islamophobia is in our public space
Just imagine, this is a man who is frightened by Islam at times

spectator.co.uk/article/we-mig…
Only a few years ago, he published this, showing his concerns ostensibly about Islam - albeit actually about Muslims
