If memory serves right, the name came from the 1990 university protests when Moi Uni students razed Mabs. I think it was at Coke 7s that Machine fans (led by @agohole, Steel Pulse) dubbed them the Arsonists.
I also believe that before that, they had been labelled "Blue Band" because of their yellow and blue striped uniforms which seemed to very quickly disappear. Image

#Covid19Millionaires is a mirror image of the 2008 #MaizeScam. In both cases, politicians from across the political divide hatched a scheme to profit from a national crisis. In 2008, they had the cover of the Grand Coalition. Today they are covered by the Handshake.

As I have said severally, Kenyans should be afraid whenever politicians come together for the sake of "national unity". Inevitably, such "handshakes" raise the curtain on the eating season. And Kenyans are always the main course.

I think we need a conversation about the ethics of representation of the dead and dying. Is it ever appropriate to capture and publish their images whether on mainstream or social media? Are there different rules for photojournalists and media firms as opposed to other citizens?
One study suggested images of graphic violence could motivate public demands for action to stop atrocities. If graphic images of accidents have a similar effect -generating GoK action to stop accidents and save lives - would it be ethical to publish them? researchgate.net/profile/Matthe…
There are few clear or easy answers. Choosing not to show images of the dead and dying is not consequence-free. Rather than blanket "thou shalt nots", maybe we should encourage more ethical and deliberative decision-making around the images people choose to publish and share.

According to @MOH_Kenya responses to the National Assembly, nearly 10% of the Sh1 billion GoK got from @WorldBank "for emergency response" was spent on airtime for staff, stationery and tea and snacks, and communication with Sh9m used just to print forms.

Would be great to get a breakdown of the ambulances @MoH leased for Sh42m and where they are given that many counties had already procured "ambulances" and that GoK itself in 2017 said it bought ambulances with cash we got back from the UK for Chickengate. kenyans.co.ke/news/20598-pre…
