Good Morning Somerton!
Somerton station opened to traffic as a single platform on 15 May 1881. In 1889, Somerton became a junction with the suburban line to Melbourne via Coburg but was closed to traffic from the Somerton end in 1903.
Somerton to Fawkner was reopened 1928, but no connection at Somerton. The terminus of the line from Fawkner was a small turntable for turning the AEC ' Beetle ' rail motor.
Somerton station closed in 1960. Standard gauge line Melb - Syd opened 1962.
1963 the freight line Somerton - Upfield converted to dual gauge. Somerton became a complicated arrangement of broad, standard, and dual gauge tracks
Roxburgh Park station was built as part of the extension of electrification Broadmeadows to Craigieburn and opened 2007. This station is a little bit north from where the original Somerton station was. The name Somerton continues as the Somerton Loop. vicsig.net/infrastructure…

Lilydale to Yarra Flats (now known as Yarra Glen) open May 1888. Yarra Glen to Healesville March 1889, with a 1 in 40 climb to a 154.4 metre tunnel with a corresponding descent at nearly the same grade.

Emerald is a station on the former Upper Ferntree Gully to Gembrook VR narrow gauge (2' 6") railway.
Opened Dec. 1900 when the line opened.
Emerald was half way along the line.

Locomotive F class 2-4-0 most built Phoenix Ballarat 1876-79. Then tender is probably a Q class tender. F class had 4 wheel tenders. Larger tender to increase range.
Altona has a very interesting history.
First Altona Beach station 1888 1 km east of present Altona station. VR built new Altona Beach station (renamed Altona 1938) on the present station site in 1917.
Line used for brown coal for a while. Sparked 1926.
