Iowa has suffered another awful day from coronavirus:
13 more deaths (1,842 total)
127 deaths reported so far in November
992 hospitalized (highest yet)
181 new hospital admissions (highest yet)
4,213 new confirmed cases
In addition to the 13 deaths, hospitalizations were up to 992 - the highest yet - including 190 in intensive care (down 4) and 77 on ventilators (up 5).
There were 181 new admissions to Iowa hospitals for coronavirus - the highest yet - in the last 24-hour reporting period.
The state is continuing to report 92 long-term care facility outbreaks - tied for the highest yet.
The state is also reporting the deaths of four more long-term care facility residents, for a total of 890.
Between 10 am Nov. 7 and 10 am Nov. 8, Iowa reported 4,213 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, pushing the total to 152,604 total cases.
That's 16,557 new cases in just the last four days!
Subtracting deaths (1,842) and "recoveries" (100,712), there are now 50,050 active cases of coronavirus in Iowa - the highest yet - or one out of every 64 Iowans!
This is a full-fledged public health emergency.
The 4,213 new cases were confirmed on 9,115 reported tests (from 1,021,858 to 1,030,973). Dividing new cases by reported tests equals 46.2%.
The state's "positive case analysis" shows 2,162 new cases on 7,634 tests for a rate of 28.3%. Even without missing cases, way too high!
There are 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds loosened Iowa's limited coronavirus restrictions May 1, without an alternative safety plan.
Today, they had 1,803 new cases (total 64,056) and 7 more deaths (total 722).
On April 30, they had 559 total cases and 11 total deaths.
Now for the county-by-county data, with a change in format. With such high statewide test rates showing COVID-19, I am only going to report tests and percentages for counties that have a percent (new cases divided by new reported tests) under 20%. Today, that's Van Buren.
If you need the tests and percentages for a county, let me know, or email me at rob [dot] hogg [at] legis [dot] iowa [dot] gov.
This change will save me time and reduce the number of tweets to report all 99 counties. Let me know what you think.

Again, if you'd like more data about a particular county or region, let me know and I'll do my best to provide it.

That's up 8,874 just since September 1!

Voting starts in Iowa tomorrow, Monday, October 5.
I hope you can get ready and vote as soon as you are ready, hopefully this week.
Let's get it started!
You can vote in person at your county auditor's office starting Monday, October 5. Please note there are contested races for President, US Senate, and US House on the ballot as well as . . .
potentially contested races for Iowa Senate (in half the state), Iowa House, county offices, agricultural extension, and soil and water conservation district commissioner, and . . .
Just heard advertisement by Ashley Hinson that brags about her efforts to help people with the coronavirus epidemic and the derecho.
Huh? Not as an Iowa state representative. She hasn't voted for anything to help people suffering from coronavirus or the derecho.
(1/4)
On the derecho, the Iowa Legislature hasn't been in session, and Gov. Reynolds hasn't called a special session.
On the coronavirus, the Republican majority did not pass a single bill to slow down or stop the spread, or help people who were suffering its consequences.
(2/4)
In fact, since the Republicans adjourned the legislative session on June 14, there have been over 68,000 new cases of coronavirus and 730 Iowans have died from it.
Four more Iowans have died from COVID-19, pushing Iowa's total to 1,381 since first death on March 24.
Deaths were reported in Black Hawk, Crawford, Henry, and Linn Counties.
Please mourn the dead, support loved ones and caregivers, and help stop the spread!
In addition to the four deaths, Iowa reports that hospitalizations dropped to 392 - good - but patients in intensive care were up to 104 and patients on ventilators were up to 39.
There were 58 new admissions to Iowa hospitals for COVID-19 in the last 24-hour reporting period.
Iowa reported 684 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing Iowa's total to 92,545.
Subtracting deaths (1,381) and "recoveries" (71,580), there are 19,584 active cases - or 1 out of every 162 people!
Earlier today, I shared the statewide numbers for coronavirus in Iowa: 10 more deaths, hospitalizations up to 402, and 1,107 new confirmed cases.
We now know the new cases included 108 more kids under age 18, up to 7,762.
Now for the county-by-county data:
The 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds first loosened Iowa's limited restrictions May 1, without an alternative safety plan, were up 539 new cases for total of 36,189 cases.
They had 4 deaths reported, for a total of 470.
On April 30, they had 559 total cases and 11 total deaths.
Sioux County (pop. 35,000) had the most new cases in the 77 counties.
For 17 of the last 18 days, it has had more new cases than Story (pop. 97,000) and Johnson (pop. 147,000).
Sioux: 51
Story: 16
Johnson: 21
Gov. Reynolds, doing anything to stop the spread in Sioux?
