Not happy to see so many people acting like all the "stolen election" stuff is *only* about Trump's ego. That's part of it, as I've said myself, but they don't see any reason not to continue, which means doubling down until they get to the dark place.
They will keep making things up and shoveling it out to their media sycophants in the same cycle of bullshit they've used since it was Breitbart, Russia Today, and Fox News plus the big social media pushes. Then all the denials and debunking spread it further.
They only need a handful of loyalists in the right posts, whether judges or AGs, to give just enough lip service, even take some action, to cause real damage. Fortunes to be made or lost are in play behind the scenes.
Everyone deserves to celebrate, but there is no way Trump and the sort of people he's surrounded himself with his entire life are going to go quietly while still holding the most powerful office in the world. Don't enjoy this squirming. Calls to denounce it are paramount.
Just remember that always, always, with these people, if they don't get their way it's because someone stopped them, not because they decided to do the right thing for once.
As we've learned over the past five years (and past 15 if you're a Russia hand), it's so hard to stop. Just enough traction to be able to say "everyone is talking about it, so there must be SOMETHING to it" and it can spin out of control.

Moment of Zen: May 1, 2021 of the Biden presidency. He's not in the news much. His qualified appointees have been confirmed and are doing their jobs, not looting the country. His ignorant family isn't running the government. Disinfectant is for cleaning. Ommm
Trump and his corrupt clownshow are still trying to make noise as criminal investigations churn through their ranks. They assumed, as such people always do, that they would be in power forever, controlling the hounds who now pursue them. Woof.
Biden and the WH stay out of it and Pelosi and Schumer never had a taste for blood. But there are too many blatant abuses coming out every day in the media to ignore. The line of whistleblowers is long and it turns out the FBI has Twitter. Oommmm

Sanders' old praise for brutal Communist regimes isn't canceled out by Trump's adoration of various dictators. It's about how each plays to relevant swing voters. Trump is boastful and it plays to the wannabe authoritarian nativists fine. An abashed Sanders, very different.
Trump can say, "Those are some pretty bad guys, but they get things done and maybe we need more of that here," and his crowds will cheer. Sanders can apologize for praising Castro's Cuba and the USSR (& look smooshy), but his real base wants him to double down, say he was right.
It's not like Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn weren't popular. Michael Moore was popular! Lots of Bernie's base would be delighted for him to say "Castro was a freedom fighter and Cuba had good healthcare and literacy despite US interference." That's a mainstream US left position!

Once again, from country to country, the so-called nationalists turn out to be grifters and thieves. Just because they have followers who believe what they sell doesn't mean it's not a scam from top to bottom.
Not to say they aren't racists, fascists, and the rest of the trash ideology of they market. But once they realize they have power over people, usually stupid people, they immediately start fleecing them, abusing power, robbing the system, etc.
Scratch a nationalist, find a Panamanian bank account. For some it's a scam from the start, tho it's not like it's hard to find an honest racist anymore. But it must be like being handed a list of people who want to buy a bridge.

As someone who helped prepare Russia talking points for several GOP presidential candidates over the last 11 years, that Obama-Romney debate moment will forever be seared in my brain.
It wasn't just that Romney was right and Obama was wrong, as was obvious to anyone paying attention at the time. It was taking the clever soundbite over the substance of a critical national security issue.
By the time of that final debate, Oct. 22, 2012, Putin had shredded Obama's naive "reset" policy. He'd completed his destruction of Russian democracy & civil society, returning formally to the presidency in March. (Obama called to congratulate him.)

That Frederick Douglass quote I just RT'd is deservedly known, but the entire "West India Emancipation speech" is a worth a read, as is usually the case with him. rbscp.lib.rochester.edu/4398 His remarks on technological progress (in 1857) are notable, too.
It risks appearing to distract from his greater message or your own by invoking Douglass to talk about the falseness of technotopianism. But he points out that all the amazing "steam and lightning" inventions of the age did not guarantee spiritual or national salvation.
I revisited this Douglass speech with @Kasparov63 to possibly include these elements in Deep Thinking, since there's a resurgence of technophilia in an era of moral calamity. Didn't make it in, but it's remarkable and powerful.

Of course not, and with good reason. 1) They only cared about the money. 2) The Putin regime isn’t against guns *in America*, but really only cared about the NRA as a conduit to the GOP and Trump, which the NRA likely understood and ignored due to point one.
At least some people on the NRA side saw this as a win-win. Get money and be of use connecting the GOP and the Trump campaign with Russian govt representatives. Helping! I’m sure they thought it was going to be pats on the head all round. Probably was.
Flynn had his Russian contacts, Kushner was working to set up his own, as the Post broke last year. (Link) With Butina/Torshin, Trump-Russia had more channels than DirectTV. A typical Russian "flood the zone" op. washingtonpost.com/world/national…
