MU'AZU TO OVERSEE INEC PENDING SENATE'S APPROVAL OF YAKUBU

The general elections are still in 2023, but it is not erroneous to say they are approaching.

Thus, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, on Monday, 9th November, handed over the affairs of the commission to Air Vice Marshall Ahmed Mu’azu (retd.) to oversee the affairs of the commission.

/2
Mu'azu is expected to oversee the affairs of the commission pending the confirmation of Yakubu by the Senate.

/3
The current commission was inaugurated in three batches- the chairman and five commissioners were sworn in on 9th November 2015, another six were commissioned on December 7, 2016 and the last commissioner was inaugurated on July 21, 2018.

/4
Members of the commission are appointed every five years which can be renewed for a second and final term.

/5
Although the renewal of the INEC chairman's tenure has already been announced, there is no confirmation from the senate yet. In light of this, he has to step down as the chairman of the commission until his reappointment is confirmed by the government.

/6
In line with this development, everyone is expected to start preparing for the forthcoming elections though it looks far away.

/7
Many of us have been clamouring for a thorough overhauling in the state of affairs of the government and this will not happen if we do not step up and play our roles as citizens of this country by making plans to vote.

/8
This starts with getting our personal voters cards (PVC's) as soon as registration starts.

WE MOVE!!!

In the course of the #EndSARS protest, Nigerian youths came about with a slogan, “We Move!” Logically, this actually depicts and captures an action to be taken, which yields results eventually.

Movement is important to the measurement of man’s success. We either move backward or forward. Movement defeats stagnancy. It entails leaving a particular spot towards progression or retrogression.

However, borrowing from the awakening of the younger generation in this country, there has been realisation that we cannot continue to live in the old ways, and expect new challenges, hence, we move.
