same claim is made about "algorithm driven". both are bunk.
6/ current media are not audience-driven; the audience does not pay.
current media are advertiser-driven and activist-driven.
advertisers pay, activists have both permeated the media organizations, and also are *feeding* the media with prepared, easy-to-ingest, press releases.
7/ Ezra even reveals the problem, but skims over it. Cf. the screencap.
>get [the audience] on the floor
on the floor for what, pay subscriptions? no, to watch the ads.
a more uncharitable likeness for the journalists would be that of *pimps*.
8/ a correct observation:
journalists represent tribal groups
9/ tribes are fine, Ezra.
it is fine to belong to a tribe, and to hold your tribe above other tribes. let tribes live side by side, we are literally evolved for that.
10/ we have entered a re-tribalized era, and we need to handle tribes living side by side. let us learn from historical and contemporary precedents.
2/ i agree with several key assertions. excellent observation:
>[some call 2020] the most important election in their lifetime. On a personal note I disagree with that, because 2016 became much more significant due to the influence that Trump ended up having on the Supreme Court
3/ very much on point:
>I don't want us to hedge all of our bets on the future of this nation solely on the back of Donald Trump.
great, great:
“it's not whether or not you get knocked down, it's if you get back up.”
