#Spycops were in Scotland dozens of times, over decades. They undermined campaigns & violated human rights. It cannot be right that victims in England & Wales get a pubic inquiry while those targeted by the very same officers in Scotland get no answers & no redress.
We have long campaigned for the truth about #SpyCops in Scotland. The Scottish Government, backed by every party in Holyrood, repeatedly asked the Home Office to include Scotland in the #SpyCopsInquiry. They were refused. They should hold their own inquiry.
Instead, Scotgov responded by hiring a bunch of career coppers (inc some involved in #SpyCops) to produce an whitewash report, lots of graphs about unrelated police work but not one mention of officers deceiving women they spied on into relationships campaignopposingpolicesurveillance.com/2017/05/03/spy…
Last year @evelinelubbers of @UndercoverNet produced a real report about #SpyCops in Scotland. She dismantled the whitewash official report & set out the known facts. But it's a fraction of the truth. We need a full & credible independent inquiry. pilc.org.uk/wp-content/upl…
Today we also got confirmation that #SpyCops went beyond the UK early too. 'Doug Edwards', undercover 1968-1971, said: "I went to Brussels with this other officer whose name I can't even mention, I suppose, but, you know, the amateurish way that it was done then, it was a strain"
#Spycops didn't just go to Scotland to target political campaigns. Many visits were holidays to cement relationships they'd deceived women into. Helen Steel @helensteel12 took this photo of her partner John Barker - #SpyCops officer John Dines - on the island of Barra in 1990 
#SpyCops deceiving women into these relationships was, the Met themselves admit, a violation of human rights, inc the right to freedom from torture, inhuman or degrading treatment. They admit the political spying on its own violates the right to a private & family life.
#SpyCops officer Mark Kennedy went to Scotland on at least 14 times 2003-2010, sometimes for political meetings & sometimes purely for relationships, as in this holiday with @JustLisa2010 in Fort William, 2008.
If these #SpyCops visits to Scotland were authorised by Scottish police, they were complicit. If spycops didn't tell Scottish police, it's a huge breach of protocol. Either way, it's a major scandal in Scottish policing that warrants a proper independent inquiry.
