When Joe Biden in 2011 said " I would not refer to him as a dictator" about Mubarak, it was a reminder that as long as you’re a dictator who gives the US what it wants, the US will support you. Whether the US President is a Democrat or a Republican.
Saudi Arabia
Egypt
UAE
Trump is not an aberration. He is the poisonous fruition of decades of US policy towards #Saudi Arabia, #Egypt, #UAE etc.
He has been the most honest and ugly in its explication. He said the quiet bits out loud.
Presidents both GOP and Democrat have long coddled the absolute monarchy of #Saudi Arabia. Trump has been crass and ugly about it. Enabling regimes in return for oil and weapons deals is ugly and crass. He is honest about it.

Once again extolling the nonsensical and toxic fuckery of “civility” and “unity,” which much like toxic positivity, demands we delude ourselves into a lockstep that benefits who?
Biden hopes to avoid divisive Trump investigations, preferring unity.
“My concern if Joe Biden wins the presidency is that the white liberals who spent the Trump era crying “This isn’t my America” (sidenote: WHAT FUCKING AMERICA HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING IN?) will now celebrate “My America is back!” and go on amnesia overdrive.”
Thank you @mr_mokgoroane for posting this. It was wrong of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie to dismiss the anger and hurt of the trans community at J.K.Rowling’s transphobia and to side with a powerful author whose transphobia endangers trans people.
“The fact that there are 2 Africans, there are 3 Black people on this list, feels like this is a clarion call...that it’s possible to judge something fairly, not fall into tokenism,to judge a work for what it is. It feels like it sets a new path for the competitions” @MaazaMengiste
"I’ve often been the only African, only Black person, on a list;and this time it seems like the judges have thrown down a gauntlet & said they’ll judge a book by what's actually written, and not on reputation of a writer or reputation of the power they might have on the industry”
Artist @sxgx designed these beauties for FEMINIST GIANT. I love them all. I’m using the first one right now and will phase into the black one soon, alternating through all. feministgiant.substack.com/p/coming-soon
I love the logo! And especially appreciate the Ankh - key of life - on the wrist, in a nod to our shared Egyptian heritage. Follow Sheyam Ghieth on Instagram where she posts many of her beautiful designs, which have a distinctly feminist and queer ethos.
Also, look for BROTHERS, a critically-acclaimed short-form narrative series she produced that follows a group of transgender male friends, exploring what it means to go up against traditional societal gender roles. brothersseries.com
My I-Am-Not-A-White-Man and I am on #Substack story.
I started FEMINIST GIANT in September and within a month a professor of Feminism and Gender Studies asked if I’d take on interns and I did and I’m enjoying editing them and writing my own essays.
To demand I support a woman simply because she’s a woman, w/no regard to whether she upholds or works to destroy patriarchy, is to reduce feminism to Sorority of Pinky Swears.
Whether it’s Trump nominating a woman to head the CIA or Biden nominating a woman to head the Pentagon, putting women at the service of patriarchy is no victory for us. I wrote this about Gina Haspel heading the CIA nytimes.com/2018/03/14/opi…
These are discussions that will come up again and again as women demand inclusion in institutions that have not been friends to women, such as the military, religious institutions, corporations — and the C.I.A.
