#COVID19 has exposed stark global inequities, fragilities and unsustainable practices that pre-date this pandemic and have intensified its impact. Recovering better from COVID-19 will depend on bold efforts and new knowledge. That means science!
This @UN Roadmap outlines 25 research priorities for recovery & will help answer a singularly important question: How can #COVID19 socio-economic recovery efforts be purposefully designed to stimulate equity, resilience, sustainability & progress towards the #SDGs?
The Roadmap also provides an overview of five science strategies for a better recovery, as well as actions that researchers, research funding agencies, governments, civil society organizations and UN entities can take to act upon it.
The #UNResearchRoadmap would not have been possible without the participation and engagement of hundreds of individuals and organizations around the world.
We live in a world where people, systems and generations are all interdependent, which means the actions we take today during #COVID19 must simultaneously work towards a more equitable, resilient and sustainable future.
In order to achieve this kind of change, we also need to use five key science strategies within research systems: scaling up data infrastructure; implementation science; rapid learning systems; knowledge mobilization; and the science of science.
Science represents the world’s best chance for guiding the attainment of a better future. I hope that this #UNResearchRoadmap will be useful for recovery efforts during and beyond the pandemic.
