#MadrasHighCourt posts PIL against #onlinegambling, #OnlineRummy Federation, celebrities who have endorsed online games including Virat Kohli, Saurav Ganguly, Prakash Raj, Tammanah, among others, for further hearing on December 10.
Appearing for a respondent, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi sought time to respond, asserting that the activity in question is not online gambling.
The Court, however, voiced concern:
"For the ordinary common man, what does it mean when a star or film star appears. They will try to follow. Virat Kohli and Saurav Ganguly have so many followers. Fans and fans."
Rohatgi responded: I take your lordships observations in the right spirit… I will come back to your lordships after two weeks, I will put in a reply also.
Sr Adv PS Raman added that there is a distinction between online gambling and other forms of online games.
Senior Advocate Veerakathiravan to assist the Court in the matter.
