1./ URGENT. Please email your MSP today. The Scottish Parliament will be asked tomorrow to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance. But the motion shouldn't be passed because it's full of wild exaggerations and downright mistakes. You can read it here👇 bb.parliament.scot/Motions/Detail…
2./ While it is true that 350 trans people have been killed worldwide in the last year not one of those was murdered in Scotland. In the UK there are currently more convicted killers who identify as trans than there have been trans people killed ....in the last decade.
3./ Many of the deaths to which the motion refers occurred in Brazil, 157 out of 350. 62% involved prostitution. This motion obscures the lived reality of many transwomen's lives and the dangers they are placed in by prostitution. 👇transrespect.org/en/tmm-update-…
4./ Brazil's homicide rate is one of the highest in the world, and deep racial inequality means it impacts people of colour unduly. Suggesting the situation in Scotland is comparable to a country suffering under an extreme Religious Right government is insulting to Brazilians.
5./ The Motion states that 48% of trans people under 26 have attempted suicide. The source is an old study by the small LGBT charity PACE which referred to the suicide history of just 27 self-selected transgender people; in the context a statistically almost useless number.
6./ Dr Nuno Nodin, the researcher who conducted the survey expressed regret his findings had been misinterpreted. Such misuse of evidence he said "happens often when research is used by non-scientists in the context of their own agenda."
7./ You can find out more about just how misleading is the use of these sort of suicide statistics at the Fairplay For Women site. 👇fairplayforwomen.com/suicide/
8./ The Motion refers to increases in hate crimes against trans people when in fact the recorded figures for trans people have declined in Scotland since 2017; and remain small. This motion contributes to unnecessary pessimism and a sense of panic. 👇copfs.gov.uk/media-site/med…
9./ The Motion is regrettable because, if it passes, it would enter falsehoods and statistical mistakes into the public record while being exploited by lobby groups to perpetuate a victim narrative that trans people are particularly at risk of murder, suicide and hate crimes.
10./ Might not the Motion cause resentment by suggesting our MSPs are obsessed with just one minority? Could they not find the time to mark the tragic rise in deaths of elderly people attributable to the pandemic or the increase in domestic violence against women during lockdown?
11./ As gay peeps we know from experience how important it is for minorities to build bridges and balance the need to defend OUR rights with the need to acknowledge the claims of others. Society is a shared project. It's not a one way street. It can't always be ONLY about us.
12./ You can find your MSP here👇Please be respectful. Our MSPs don't have time to check facts. They sometimes pass wrong motions from the best of intentions. Your email could help them realise they've been misled by lobby groups with ulterior motives. beta.parliament.scot/msps/current-a…

1./ A thread. Will the new Pfizer COVID vaccine work? The obstacles are huge but if it does here's how it could transform medicine in almost unimaginable ways. The bad news is it may usher in a terrifying new problem for which we remain totally unprepared. theguardian.com/business/2020/…
2./ The vaccine inserts genetic material (mRNA) inside human cells with instructions that tell them what proteins to make. Scientists have been trying to perfect techniques like this for decades. Here's the opening of my BBC Horizon from 20 years ago about an earlier attempt. 👇
3./ The subject of that film -'antisense' technology- offered unbelievable promise. Bits of RNA (tRNA in this case) would be inserted into cells where they would block messages from faulty genes in DNA that were causing disease. Researchers hailed it then as a 'Magic Bullet'
1./ A thread. It's wonderful to see the eminent scientist @RichardDawkins speak out against bullying wokeness at the workplace. But sadly Science is also being undermined by the same muddled nonsense as biological reality is denied and those who defend it are accused of bigotry.
2./ When I made a TV show with Richard a few years ago (called 'Big Questions in Science') it would have been unthinkable that science communicators would conspire in such an obvious erosion of the truth. Yet that's now what's happening. Take this 👇nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/1…
3./ Last week @NatGeo magazine reported the discovery in the Andes of 9000 year old bones from an accomplished hunter, who turned out to be (wait for it) a biological female. Great, you might think! One in the eye for timeless gender stereotypes. But then came the kicker.
1./ Just how ignorant are some of our woke politicians? Here's @MrJohnNicolson celebrating today 5 "mature democracies" for their gender laws. One of them is Malta, a spectacularly corrupt basket case whose govt just happens to be accused of involvement in killing a journalist.👇
2./ John thinks of himself as an expert on almost everything so he probably didn't bother to read the memo from the SNP's Zentrale Committee that said never to mention the little rogue nation ever again. When the party first proposed Gender Recognition Reform Malta was its toast.
3./ After all the country with a population less than Glasgow was given top marks by the sinister LGBTQ+ pressure group ILGA for the ultra woke LGBT legislation it had recently rushed to introduce. economist.com/graphic-detail…
1./ Ever feel the forward march of woke delusional ideas can't be stopped? Don't despair. Here's one way to halt the insidious creep of mad notions into the heart of our institutions: donate to this hugely important Judicial Review.👇 crowdjustice.com/case/stop-scot…
2./ @ForwomenScot are a bright light in the grey sanctimonious culture in Scotland under the present SNP leadership. But they have just 21 days left to raise the rest of the £60K they need. Their Review has a date set: January 7th 2021. It's time to give them all you can please.
3./ @ForwomenScot receive no taxpayers' money; unlike the array of strange LGBTQ+ and fake Equality organisations that constantly beset them. Those opponents are mostly job creation schemes that never saw a glint of public money they didn't hoover up and misuse.
1./ I was just sent a video by @PeterTatchell celebrating 50 years since the Gay Liberation Front was founded. I hope you like my slight enhancement. How strange that in NONE of the archive is there a single appearance of those acronyms LGBT or LGBTQ. Wonder why? 👇
2./ You know for sure Peter would have chiselled them in if he could have found a single image. But just like the claim that trans people started the Stonewall riot the truth is trans people didn’t play a significant role in the founding of GLF. Nor did Peter.
3./ Peter didn’t arrive in the UK until the following year. The year before that a 19 year old women called @BevJacksonAuth became GLF spokesperson and told the Times, “we are not ashamed to be homosexual”. Almost exactly a year ago in 2019 she co-founded @ALLIANCELGB
26./ PART 2 : Puberty Blocker Thread. @sjblakemore has shown the brain is radically transformed during the decade and more of adolescence with, for example, activity in the medial prefrontal cortex decreasing. In other words it takes time for our adult brain slowly to emerge.👇
27./ This is miles from the simple model of the Dutch protocol where adolescence is switched on and off like a tap. Our brains take time to change as our social skills fully reveal themselves. Switching off puberty risks disconnecting kids from their peers and social emotions.
28./ Just as adult body parts take years to grow so do our brain areas. Here's Blakemore again: white matter increases in the brain by just 1% a year during the whole of adolescence. But it doesn't do so as you might imagine by the brain just getting bigger.
