Lan Zhan and Wei Ying are having a picnic in the park. Lan Zhan is laying on his side and reading a book, in theory, but in reality he’s watching Wei Ying’s every movement as he talks animatedly about ever changing topics.
A woman Wei Ying knows from work approaches them.
“Wei Ying! Good to see you! Is this your friend?”
Wei Ying smiles wide, a somewhat mischievous glint to his eyes.

“Lan Zhan is my very best friend, right Lan Zhan?” he says.
Lan Zhan’s eyes soften. “Mn.”
The smile drops from Wei Ying’s face as his eyes go misty. “Really?” he asks, voice small.
Lan Zhan looks confused. “Of course Wei Ying is my best friend. I love you.”

It comes out as sort of a question, almost. The woman is still standing there but she doesn’t seem to know what to say.
Tears slide down Wei Ying’s cheeks. “I’m really your best friend?” he says, smiling.
Lan Zhan sits up, leaning over to thumb the tears off his cheeks.

Wei Ying sniffles and then looks back at the woman who’s looking anywhere but at them. “Sorry, sorry, Lan Zhan is my fiancé. Sorry you had to see all that.”
She snorts a laugh. “It’s no problem. See you around, Wei Ying.”
