For more than a week, the @MichiganAdvance has been trying to report on elected officials who have #Covid_19 in Michigan. I believe there is a vital public interest to report this information, because it's a contagious disease they can spread and these officials make policy.
We have been stonewalled by the GOP Legislature and Supreme Court. I am sure other outlets have had similar experiences. This is the biggest transparency problem we have right now. Normally, we would try and chase people down, but I will not subject our staff in a pandemic.
Here is what we know so far. How many more elected officials are part of the 277,806 Michiganders who have tested positive for #COVID19? The deeply unsatisfying answer is we don't know.

There are all these tortured pieces about how to reach people who believe in insane conspiracy theories about Q, the election and covid but there is no real way to do so. I am so sorry if it’s someone you love but they are not going to listen to reason and coddling doesn’t work.
The frightening part is how many people you know who believe parts of these conspiracies, even if they’re not all in.
Thanks to social media and right-wing media, people can create their own reality and it's often not pretty.

You can't separate what's going on in DC from Michigan. Republicans in Washington left town without a fiscal deal, leaving millions of unemployed Americans and state governments in the lurch (yes, many red states are in worse shape than we are). michiganadvance.com/2020/08/01/sus…

You may have heard that GOP Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey called Gov. Gretchen Whitmer "batshit crazy." I have some thoughts, especially for men in my profession, who are usually in a much better position than women to call sexism out.
Women, especially younger ones, don’t want to be the ones to publicly raise sexism. It’s a great way not to be taken seriously in a still male-dominated profession. So being an ally is a powerful show of solidarity for male journos. michiganadvance.com/2019/11/23/sus…
I've been in journalism for almost 20 years and I've learned a lot from my mistakes, especially being in my 20s and covering Michigan's first female governor, @JenGranholm. Journalists aren’t infallible and we should admit that.
