Last night I had to go to A&E (emergency room). I was being sick & after speaking to my doctor (I’m fine now) there was reason to worry I might have an active bleed in my GI tract.
Last night I had to go to A&E (emergency room). I was being sick & after speaking to my doctor (I’m fine now) there was reason to worry I might have an active bleed in my GI tract.
2/ I phoned my GP surgery after a couple of days of symptoms, and a GP phoned me back in the afternoon. He took details of my symptoms, said he would discuss it with the medical team (centralised NHS team) & phone me back.
3/ He called back shortly after & said the safest thing would be to go to the ER, and rule out a bleed. I took an Uber over, and was seen shortly by 2 nurses who did triage & took blood.
4/ I had a full blood panel, was seen by 2 nurses, a doctor and a specialist. A variety of tests & a chest x-ray later they concluded it wasn’t life threatening there was some inflammation that required further investigation that my GP would continue.
5/ They sent a detailed report to the GP requesting which tests they want carried out, and the conclusions of their investigations. They even considered an endoscopy, but felt the risks outweighed the benefits.
6/ I received all this treatment, excellent top notch care, battery of tests for *free*. All I paid was the cost of Ubers there and back.
The NHS is incredible, I cannot emphasise enough how fortunate we are. Everyone should have access to medical care like this. #ilovemynhs
