After Justice L Nageswara Rao led bench of the Supreme Court, on Monday, extended the parole granted to AG Perarivalan, convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, by a week, Perarivalan has again approached SC for extension of parole
Senior Adv Gopal Sankaranarayanan seeks a further extension for four weeks: there is a 25 percent blockage of kidney. Three months extension was a bit too much but a reasonable extension is needed.
SC: Why don't you ask the government?
AAG of Tamil Nadu: 30 days parole is allowed in 2 years. He is already allowed 51 days. Now he has a hospital 25 km away he wants to go to a hospital which is 200 km away. Those facts are not presented before the court.
Srinivansan: The order on his parole by the HC states that extension was rejected saying no further extension will be granted
Justice Rao: When does our extension end?
Sankaranarayanan: Nov 30
SC: Parole was extended by a week on Nov 23. He was to be provided escort. For medical reasons he is seeking extension of parole for 90 days. Srinivasan submits Madras HC on Nov 6 disposed off the extension request. We grant a further extension for a week.
SC: Any medical facility that petitioner needs, he would be taken to CMC Vellore.. State of TN shall provide necessary escort. After one week he shall be taken to jail.
Justice Rao: Please advise your client not to go to a hospital which is 200 kms away.
