ASG Aishwarya Bhatia appears for the Union
Justice Bhushan: when are the anganwadis opening
Centre: Anganwadi workers have gone to homes of beneficiaries and provided meals
Bhati: Regarding reopening Ministry of women and child development to take a call after discussion with concerned states so that aanganwadi can be resumed outside containment centre. @MinistryWCD
Took it up with @HMOIndia
Bhati: We have ensured so that door to door delivery services can go on. Such centres can operate coming with health and sanitation protocols
Justice MR Shah: question is in respect to post lockdown period. Not about all the steps taken
Senior Adv Colin Gonsalves: May i point out the real picture please.
Senior Adv Gonsalves: a wrong picture has been shown. From March 2020 till today Anganwadi system is closed. Pregnant women, lactating mothers and children are all suffering. Under nutrition is one of the main causes of morbidity during COVID19
Gonsalves: a starvation kind of situation is prevailing in the country. They say such services "may be resumed." Then Centre says "advised it may be opened".
Senior adv Gonsalves: vaccinations have also completely stopped.
Justice Bhushan: we have to consider the present situation. We can't say open it and call the children.
Justice Shah: schools and colleges are not opened but you want to risk the children by opening Anganwadis
Gonsalves: Then let them die of starvation. Why can't these children be staggered and given them hot cooked meals.
SC: We will grant further time to show how are states implementing the Nov 11 guidelines and how many anganwadis are working. We need affidavit by the centre with facts and figures.
Senior Adv Gonsalves: we cant have a single day wasted.
Justice Shah: we are not closing the proceedings. We want centres affidavit
Gonsalves: please keep the case on non miscellaneous day and I need 45 minutes to argue.
Supreme Court: Let centre file detailed affidavit regarding steps taken by Centre to implement Nov 11 guidelines. Let all states file additional affidavits to show what is the status and how the guidelines are being implemented.
SC: It also needs to be shown why children are not being provided hot cooked meals.
