Report from @METLAkikwe finds no evidence of racist games in BC hospital ERs involving indigenous patients. However, she finds much larger concerns about systemic racism and discrimination in BC’s health care system.
@METLAkikwe .@adriandix makes “an unequivocal apology” for the pain caused by racism within BC’s health care system, after release from report from @METLAkikwe
@METLAkikwe @adriandix Dix says immediately 5 indigenous liason positions are added in each health authority.
@METLAkikwe @adriandix Dix has appointed a new associate deputy minister to oversee the “action” that he expects will occur and he said he will lead after the release of this report.

Outgoing Speaker Darryl Plecas has produced a “Speaker’s Forum” report w/ recommendations for the #bcleg. It contains… many reforms that target the media, which, I should point out, the Speaker has no authority over. But.
I will summarize them in this thread.
"Encourage the Legislative Press Gallery and other media to present news to the public more like an accessible briefing note on relevance and less like a story about villains and heroes.”
"Have an independent body provide an annual report card of the media’s coverage of the Legislative Assembly."

.@Wilkinson4BC quizzing @jjhorgan now on the “false choice” from gov that students either attend physically in Sept or withdraw to home schooling and distance education. Asks why schools can’t accommodate remote virtual learning as well. A common Q from parents.
@Wilkinson4BC @jjhorgan “We are going to try and make this work for everybody. Whatever they need. If its in class or hybrid we will work it out,” says @jjhorgan
Then calls Wilkinson disrespectful and his suggestion incomprehensible. And then both sides start yelling at each other.
@Wilkinson4BC @jjhorgan Wilkinson asks: "Parents want choice. They want to have distance learning provided from their bricks and mortar school. They don’t want to be forced to withdraw from their school.”
“All they are asking for is an element of parental choice."

Lots of ppl emailing and tweeting me about this, and it’s become a political football, so let’s just dig into a bit more of the context on it so we can understand the debate better… 1/
First off, the WorkSafeBC surplus union and business has been fighting to spend for 18 years is not cash in a vault. It’s the gain and increase in the value of its investments over time. It exists the same way your RRSP gains exist - if and when at the moment you cash them out.
Think of it like this: WorkSafeBC has an $18b “accident fund” right now, much of which is invested. It only needs $15b to be at 130% asset to liabilities ratio it’s set. So the $3b difference is the surplus.
If stock market drops 15%, say, that’s almost $3b in losses right there.

2nd reading of @Dave_Eby's bill to limit expert witness reports in ICBC cases just turned into a massacre as Eby dismantled in 5 minutes an hour's worth of Lib arguments on how inappropriate it is for an AG to fiddle with ICBC - by pointing out all the times the Lib gov did it.
@Dave_Eby At one point @Dave_Eby pointed out how hypocritical the Liberal arguments are by saying it as is Liberal MLAs "just fell from space" into the chamber and didn't understand their own party's history of ICBC interference.
then pointed to this @VaughnPalmer column to outline the history of Liberal AG ICBC interference.

Also pointed out many other provinces limit court expert reports.

When I arrived at #bcleg 10 years ago, I clashed w/ MacMinn.
Asked him for basic $ details about MLA spending. Told no. Asked him for travel expenses. Told no. Asked to see #bcleg budget. Told no. There WERE no financial books.
So I doubt this is his accurate travel costs.
I remember one year he was asked politely to curtail legislature spending. He was so upset he turned around and in step 1 fired the parliamentary player students who dress up annually as the Queen, Sir James Douglas, etc.
MLAs backed off after that poison pill.
Anyone who thinks MacMinn was some sort of guardian of the public $ is either ill-informed or nuts. When he retired, he demanded continued pay as an emeritus clerk consultant. Turned into a scandal. Was forced to promise to donate his salary to #bcleg upon his death. Still alive.
