We are a broad party. Last night's results often went from one extreme to the other. While some people celebrated this, others mourn. Attacks about this - from either side - are never ok. Sometimes we have to agree to disagree on topics. And we also have to be honest with each...
...other and also with ourselves.
This black and white thinking and picking hard sides can be damaging to many. There are also many confused members, on both and no side, who don't know or understand what's happening. People who only want independence for everyone in Scotland...
...And on both sides, there are some, very few but very loud voices, who argue for their side with hate for the other side & who use disinformation, often on an emotional level.
Most women don't hate trans people.
Most trans people don't hate women.
But some on both sides do...
...And we have to stand up against this hate, no matter from which side it comes.
Personal attacks have to stop.
We are a broad church. And to understand each others concerns, we have to be willing to be open and to listen to each other without being abusive at the same time...
...Some women within the party have concerns about losing their rights & about how the GRA would cause this.
Some of the information on this topic is wrong and some people fighting for women's rights are openly anti trans and some are also anti gay. But the concerns are real...
...some trans people, as well as LGB+ within our party have concerns that we are going backwards and losing hard won Equality rights.
Some of the information on this topic is wrong and some people fighting for trans rights are openly anti women.
But the concerns are real...
...You might have notices how often I used the word "some" in all of the above. There is also a huge amount of people - on both sides on none - who don't want to pick sides, or who don't want to fight with each other, or who don't understand all the facts, from both sides. ...
... I will always fight for equality for ALL people, and that includes women and it includes trans people and everyone else.
I will also try and not see things in hard black and white ways.
And I will also try to not be caught up in emotional misinformation campaigns if I can...
...And I recognise that as a broad church it is impossible to always agree with each other on every single small or big topic.
But we can show respect for each other, we can not attack each other for holding different opinions and we can recognise how difficult some topics are...
...we can recognise that this is an emotional topic for many and that there is misinformation around and many misunderstandings.
Some of this comes from outwith the party.
To move forward as a broad party, we have to be willing to listen to concerns from ALL, respectfully...
...and we have to take the hate out of these discussions.
Sometimes picking hard sides can be damaging.
And the independent Scotland I am fighting for is an independent Scotland for all the people of Scotland.
We won't always all agree.
But we are all the people of Scotland...
...I realise I will lose followers - from both sides - for writing this thread. But as people, I hope we can all come together & be open, honest and respectful with each other once again. Independence is not about hard sides.
It's about all of us & a better Scotland for all.

4 years ago today, I stayed up all night. I didn't believe the exit polls. I knew Brexit would have it. But I wanted to be wrong. I watched every result come in. I wasn't allowed to vote. But I knew it had and would continue to have a major effect on my life. And it got worse.
As the day progressed, it became clear that a lot of people thought they were now justified to be openly racist.
That day, I was told to go home, my car was damaged, I had a note through the letterbox, emails asking when I'd move away & my home marked.
Hate ruled that day. 😔💔
"We won! Pack your bags or we'll pack them for you!"
"Get out of my country!"
"You don't belong here!"
"This is not your home anymore!"
"Go back to where you came from!"
"Leave or we'll make you!"
"You're not welcome here!"
"British jobs for British people!"
They celebrated hate.

Today would be a good day to reach out to an EU citizen you know and ask them how they're doing. I can't even begin to tell you how full of worry, sadness and anger my timeline is today. 💔
I might put down a few very random thoughts today and turn this into a not very coherent thread. It's one of those days where the memories just keep flooding in.
One of those days to realise how much this UK government has taken from me and how much it's broken me.
So if you want to mute me or this thread, now's your chance. But I don't want to keep all those many thoughts bottled up as they're just building up and that's not healthy.

7½ years ago in January 2013 David Cameron proposed in his so called "Bloomberg speech" the renegotiation of the UKs EU membership terms, due to pressures from Eurosceptics. He added it into the Tory manifesto, to act upon as soon as a Tory majority was to be returned.
5 years ago, after Labour & LibDems also added the promise of an EU referendum to their manifestos, The European Union Referendum Act 2015 was voted through parliament. MPs voted 544 to 53 in favour of the principle of holding a referendum, only the SNP opposed. It passed 316:53.
This started a neverending right wing campaign full of misinformation and xenophobia, blaming the EU & foreigners for all ills within the UK.
In the run-up to the 2016 referendum, there was a huge increase of hate crimes and racially motivated attacks.
We knew what was coming.

And so it is Christmas.
Some thoughts about the lessons history teaches, the othering of people and my nana's life. With a side order of xenophobia and a bitter future ahead for a UK, which doesn't learn from the past. From this German new Scot.
This will be the 2nd Christmas after my nana's death. She liked Christmas, I don't, never have. I am very much not religious, but I only realised how much her beliefs mattered to my nana in the last few years and then the last week of her life. And why Christmas mattered to her.
Growing up, I never remembered my nana as a particularly religious person. Officially she was Protestant, and in her last few years she enjoyed getting the local church newsletter and sometimes watched services on TV. She preferred the Catholic hospital over the Protestant one.

Hey @DHLParcelUK let's continue our conversation in public and see if you still refuse to help me, shall we? I know you want everyone to send you a DM, to keep it nice and private and to then NOT respond for hours or days, or not read the messages properly. This isn't working. 1/
Last week, a parcel to me was posted. Unfortunately it was with you @DHLParcelUK a mistake that won't be repeated, trust me!
When dropping the parcel off, we got a confirmation slip, which also has a tracking number on it. Checked the tracking no and it showed as dropped off. 2/
We tracked it through the stages @DHLParcelUK and everything seemed fine. It was dropped off at the shop. Then picked up from the shop by you. Brought to a central place. Shipped on. Received in the local depot. Loaded on the van. 3/
