MyGov has released an excellent booklet "Putting Farmers First" which not only covers in detail the current #FarmLaws2020 but also lays out in structured summarized format the work done by the Modi government in the last 6 years.
Some snippets. 1/10

On the current #FarmLaws2020, there is much debate as to what may or may not happen.

WHAT WILL NOT HAPPEN
MSP will not go away; APMC Mandis will not close; Farmers land cannot be taken way

WHAT WILL HAPPEN
Farmers can sell in Mandis & outside; More income; More jobs. 2/10
So what was the need for #FarmLaws2020 reforms when as per Left groups all was well?

1) Fragmented markets
2) Insufficient markets
3) Inadequate Infra
4) Inadequate credit

While rest of the economy was opening up, farmers were restricted. Result - Huge Income Disparity. 3/10
What about the charge that there has not been adequate consultation before #FarmLaws2020 were passed?

THE TRUTH: Two decades of consultation. Farm Reforms are perhaps the only policy reforms where there has been consensus movement in SAME DIRECTION by multiple governments. 4/10
So what are the benefits of the law that allows the farmers to sell in APMC Mandis as at present but also, and importantly, anywhere outside?

1) Better price discovery for farmer
2) Converts present buyers market to sellers (farmer) market
3) Better logistics in rural areas
5/10
What are the benefits of the Contract Farming law?

1) Assured price for farmer
2) Contracted price is bare minimum in case of more profits farmer gets additional bonus
3) Arhtiyas get more options
4) More investment in infra at farmer door step
5) Rural youth get more jobs
6/10
What about the fear that MSP will go away?

Commitment of Modi government on MSP is reflected in not just in increases but also the procurement quantity at these MSPs.

The pulses story is eye-opener.
1) Reduced Forex outflow
2) More cash to our farmers
3) Lower inflation 7/10
The MSP story, or rather the fear being spread on MSP is completely contrary to the track record of Modi government when it comes to not just MSP increases but also procurement at MSP.

8/10
However, the #FarmBill2020 have not happened in isolation. They have taken place after a series of efforts since 2014 which have created the base for these reforms.

1) Budgetary allocation enhanced
2) Access to formal credit
3) Water and electricity
4) Farm Insurance
9/10
All of the efforts of Modi government since 2014 are geared up towards one aim.

1) Vale addition
2) New opportunities like ethanol
3) Direct Income support to small and marginal farmers

#FarmBill2020 is the game changer in the national resolve of DOUBLING FARMER INCOME. 10/10

What has always baffled me is why did India not respond at all after #MumbaiTerrorAttack on 26/11 in 2008?

Even minor countries respond in at least some military way after a terror attack. But consider what India faced in just 2008 alone (attached chart) and yet no response? 1/5
More than 450 Indians had been murdered in terrorists attacks in 2008 alone. 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007 had not been any less brutal years.

And yet, despite all of this carnage kind of culminating into the #MumbaiTerrorAttacks on 26/11, the Congress government kept silent. Why? 2/5
One plausible explanation could be that the decision makers inside government were compromised.

For example, we now know, through his own views, that Shiv Shankar Menon (FS in 2008) feels that it is legitimate for USA to decide India's policies. Was he compromised then? 3/5

Once-in-a-century global pandemic.
Economic dislocation across the country.
Migrant hardships.
15 years of anti-incumbency.
Entire media ecosystem aligned against you.

Yet, the NDA wins with complete majority in Bihar.
BJP performs phenomenally.
#BiharElectionResults2020 1/10
Comfortable reelection of BJP led NDA in Bihar and its sweeping victories in the by-polls, across the length and breadth of the country, is a testimony to the phenomenal popularity of PM Modi.
This popularity is not media or PR built but because of hard work on the ground. 2/10
The continued popularity of PM Modi also holds lessons. both for his detractors as well as his well wishers.

To the well wishers: Think about what did PM Modi get right in dealing with the COVID pandemic? Some of it may not sound sexy or set the pulse racing, but it works. 3/10

Sonia Gandhi says in HT article "fundamental right to freedom of expression has been systematically suspended through suppression and intimidation."

I agree.

Where is this happening?

In Congress ruled Maharashtra where EVERY JOURNALIST of a media house has FIR against them.1/5
Sonia Gandhi says in HT article"institutions that are meant to uphold the rights of citizens and society at large have been co-opted or subverted."

I agree.

Where is this happening?

In Congress ruled Maharashtra where institutions are functioning as party office extensions.2/5
Sonia Gandhi says in HT article "system unleashes investigative agencies on dissenters"

I agree.

Where is this happening?

In Congress ruled Maharashtra where people have been arrested for mere social media posts and / or their homes razed for merely voicing opinion. 3/5

Some salient features of the four labour codes passed by Parliament. #LabourReforms

There existed 44 central labour laws. 12 of them had been previously repealed.

Now 29 acts comprising 1232 sections subsumed into hugely simplified just 4 acts with 479 sections. 1/10
1) Code on Wages: Subsumes 4 acts into 1.

Features:
>Statutory right for minimum & timely wages for ALL workers - organised and unorganized
>542 different classifications of minimum wages standardized to just 12
>Skill to be a determinant in fixing wage.

#LabourReforms 2/10
2) Industrial Relations Code: Subsumes 3 acts into 1

Features:
>No prior permission needed for upto 300 workers for retrenchment (earlier limit 100)
>Fixed term employment. Workers can now be directly hired with all benefits without middlemen contractors.

Answers to some of the questions being raised after the passage of the #FarmBill2020.

1) If MSP will stay why not write it in the bill?

Because MSP has always been an administrative mechanism and NOT legislative. This allows flexibility to increase it as and when needed. 1/10
Answers to some of the questions being raised after the passage of the #FarmBill2020.

2) How will MSP be ensured in private transactions?

Private trade will be ABOVE rate of MSP. That is the whole point. Farmer will go to private people when they get rates MORE than MSP. 2/10
Answers to some questions after the passage of the #FarmBill2020.

3) Modi govt has weakened MSP.

Let the numbers speak.
UPA in 2009-14 purchased 1.52 LMT pulses as MSP.
NDA in 2014-19 purchased 76.85 LMT at MSP.
For oil seeds numbers are 3.65 and 30.17 LMT respectively.

Read the full text of the letter written by rebel Congressmen like @ghulamnazad, @AnandSharmaINC, @KapilSibal, @ManishTewari, @ShashiTharoor, @prithvrj & others. Some may back out in face of ruthless retribution that Sonia Gandhi is capable of deploying, others may not. 1/5 ImageImageImageImage
The letter makes some compelling points:
1) Youth overwhelmingly vote for Modi and BJP
2) Congress takes highly amateurish and uniformed positions on matters of national interest
3) Much touted NSUI reforms by Rahul Gandhi were a sham
4) Congress is super over-centralized 2/5
But hidden in the generalities is, I think, is an important message by these rebels which include no less than likes of @ghulamnazad and @KapilSibal. That message is this:

Congress was always left-of-centre party but but under Rahul Gandhi it has become extremist left. 3/5
