The budget proposed by Metro‘s general manager last week included money to open Silver Line Phase 2 in July of next year. With low pandemic ridership and a budget crunch there may not be tremendous pressure to open it by summer or even fall. #wmata

Today the superintendent of Falls Church schools said all students should feel valued & he supports a board vote Tuesday to change the names of George Mason High & Thomas Jefferson Elem.
The move is controversial, in an October survey it was opposed by a more than 2 to 1 margin.
The school board voted unanimously to change the names because the two men were slaveholders. Opponents accuse the board of ignoring the majority of the community’s wishes.
Although we’ve seen names of Confederates dropped from local schools & recently Alexandria voted to drop the name of segregationist TC Williams from its high school, this appears to be the first local district to remove names of founding fathers- both of which are honored in DC.
BREAKING: Metro now proposing far less severe budget cuts than before. #wmata proposes continuing to keep rail stations open until 11 PM each day; previous proposal had been 9 PM.
Metro also no longer proposing bringing back “turnbacks“ on Red/Yellow lines.

On the bad side for riders, Metro’s board had voted to reduce weekend rail fares to a flat two dollar fee, plus increase the bus/rail transfer discount, plus reduce seven day bus pass costs - now #wmata is proposing scrapping those discounts to save money.
For bus riders #wmata plans to make customers board at the front and pay again starting in January.
Metro is proposing to largely keep bus service at the reduced levels it is currently at.
BREAKING: Metro announces dates of future shutdowns for platform work.
In mid-February to mid-May 2021 they plan to shut down Arlington Cemetery and Addison Road.
In Summer 2021 they'll shut down Greenbelt, College Park, Prince George's Plaza & West Hyattsville.
Metro also plans to shut down every station east of Stadium Armory on the Orange Line in summer 2022 - Minnesota Avenue, Deanwood, Cheverly, Landover, New Carrollton.
Metro plans to do platform work at National Airport from Fall 2022 to Spring 2023, but without closing the station.
They say parts of it may close at times but two tracks will always stay open and passengers will be able to get on and get off there while the work is done.
