in which Roko re-discovers, for better or worse, the class system
2/
medieval society had classes going from 1 through 2 to 3.

now-a-day we have X/10 grading; is that much different?

3/
note that in the traditional class system, the cross-class promotion was equally possible for both sexes (through heroic deeds or through heroic beauty).

also apologies for the somewhat glib, acerbic commentary - i'm somewhat new to this particular idea.
4/
keys to fixing marriage:

- societal support & enforcement
- align incentives for facilitators for few "attempts"
- be frank that not everybody is best off with a family; provide good alternative tracks through life.

we used to have the later one - clergy, science, etc.
5/
to expand on "align incentives for facilitators for few *attempts*"

note that online & offline dating platforms, venues, societal structures are geared to extract value from repeated finding dating partners

rather than from single, final coupling up. misaligned incentives.

context: the left is attacking pornhub

question is raised, "should we ally with the left to dismantle pornhub?"

that's not possible this time around.
2/
the left is not aiming to *shut down* the pornhub; quite the opposite: they want to *take it over from inside*.

through pressure applied by the media on service providers and employees.

always the same scenario:
3/
the left doesn't want to *shut down* vices; the left wants to *control & tax* the vices - because they use vices as pay-offs.

>keeping manufacturing capability up and running is bad

it's good. expensive, sure, but good none the less. especially several *competing* programs and organizations in parallel.
2/
>rockets and tech wins wars

???

we've been there before, several times in fact. every single time humans turned out to be better at it. every time guns were removed from a fighter aircraft, they had to be re-introduced *ex post haste*.

3/
"but mark", i hear you object, "how could an imperfect human perform better than a perfect machine?"

humans are much better at making spot decisions
and at OODA, precision observation, etc.

than at predicting all possible scenarios and programming machines.

#Substack - good for dissenting writing or not really?

i've been reading their ToS & guidelines, thread follows
2/
the hot piece first: Content Guidelines

nebulous "Hate" is banned. even including *calls for exclusion* based on protected characteristics 🤐.

no more Boy Scouts or Lady's Day at the gym 🤡
3/
Content Guidelines, cont.:

>anything that violates laws or regulations

obey Pakistani blasphemy laws? nah, luckily the Publisher Agreement ascertains that's the California, USA, jurisdiction. not bad, but...

>causing harm

in CA that means "criticism of feminists". welp :-(

reminder, there are plenty of short leftist memes floating around

we don't consider them *memes* because the reward is very alien to us (moral permission to do evil for "greater good")

2/
Daniel implies that strong reactions are propagandized, while natural reactions are weak and need deep deprogramming to surface.

3/
what is leftism?

*destroying social structure*, says Daniel
