Anti-semitism is an issue that has often been misunderstood or underestimated by the US Left. It remains a central organizing principle of the right as is clear from the popular QANON conspiracy theory, and incidents like the Tree of Life synagogue shooting.

Almost any time that antisemitism as an issue is raised, there will be a response regarding Israel's human rights abuses against Palestinians. Treating the Jewish diaspora & the Israeli state as a singular entity is in fact a relic of an old anti-semitic narrative: dual loyalty.

Anti-semitism has not been a structural feature of US society in the way anti-black racism has been. However it has been an important focal point of right-wing recruitment, networking, & ideological cohesion. From Henry Ford to McCarthyism to Q, anti-semitism has been key.

Anti-semitic conspiracy theory has been one of the most fertile avenues for right entryism in leftist spaces. We have historically encountered a lot of resistance from leftists in recognising this even with abundant evidence.

It is very important that leftists, especially antifascists, study anti-semitism and gain an in depth understanding of this ancient yet still v potent force. We must also have the nuance to understand that you can oppose Israel's actions without replicating anti-semitic tropes.
