#MadrasHighCourt, Madurai Bench while hearing PIL re misuse of Advocate stickers pasted on vehicles:
"First of all, what is the legal sanctity of the sticker? ... When widely it is misused, and it is reflecting (badly) on the profession, why not the Bar Council give it up?”
Court also orally expresses reservations over a proposal that directions may be given so that Advocate stickers are only purchased from the Bar Council, which may be verified by the police.
Responding to submissions that advocate stickers are required to ensure lawyers have access to limited parking lots at courts, Bench directs that a representation be made to the High Court registry so that the system followed at the principal Bench can be followed in Madurai.
During the hearing, Court also remarked:
See, our (lawyers') conduct should be very honourable. We should command respect, not demand respect. It used to be a noble profession. Now we are searching for nobility in the profession, we couldn’t find it
