So, is this statement from Kenney just gaslighting (i.e. lying to gain support for outcomes that UCP has no intention of achieving?), or is this targeted rhetoric for certain demographics (white, middle income, males?).
It’s both.
The curriculum being proposed is neo-Confederate.
It’s based on the belief of the superiority of white superiority, as evidenced by reliance on classic liberal arts, and reinforced with removal of critical thinking to be replaced by rote memorization & repetition.
While this curriculum did produce European cultural, economic and political dominance throughout the past 500 years, is that the direction society wants to return to?
Well, we know UCP does. But what about the diverse population in Alberta?
Are we prepared to erase past atrocities committed to dominate and rule North America, to enslave POC to perform free labour enriching the most wealthy, to conceal abject poverty of the underclass who didn’t matter to the elites, to downplay the achievements of women’s suffrage?
The classic liberal arts education provides a basic foundation that reinforces the dominance of white male culture and portrays that dominance as divinely determined by labeling it “natural law.”
In a pluralist society, it’s outdated, inadequate and regressive.
There is much to learn from a classic liberal arts education. It reveals the cultural assumptions made that enable Terra Nullius. It indoctrinates presumed ascendency of certain races, cultures and faiths. It provides the rationale for European white male dominance.
I suppose we could go back (aka regress) to such limited and narrow minded curriculum, but that would nullify the existence of anyone who falls outside of the white Christian male category.
Which is the whole point it seems.

Dominionist Christianity is actually cult membership. There is no one denomination that is a cult. It’s the observance of the bible to be the unerring actual word of god that determines characterization of a specific church as Dominionist.
@sayitlouderk@UbakaOgbogu In all cults, there is the requirement of isolation from other social contacts and the requirement for constant reinforcement of cult beliefs, values and ideology, or cult members begin to think independently.
@sayitlouderk@UbakaOgbogu Cults control their members by convincing them to let the leaders do all the critical thinking while cult members focus on obeying leadership.
This way, questioning the leader and the cult’s beliefs is minimized. And cult members remain loyal.
Pair this violent Calgary protest with this opinion piece.
Is it any wonder that “liberty” ideologues are rebelling against Public Health Measures after the premier gave them every indication their freedom was superior to everyone else’s right to life?
WTF is O’Toole doing in Quebec? Trudeau is letting down France because the Canadian constitution allows for hate speech to be restricted?
What kind of fricking polarizing nonsense is that? Why is Canada obligated to uphold France’s interpretation of liberty and free speech?
It isn’t! Which is the whole point. How dare O’Toole suggest Canadians compromise the Charter’s freedom of expression to accommodate a French interpretation of free speech. Or rather, Freedom of Expression.
What a nincompoop statement! Pierre Trudeau brought us the Chartwr of Rights and Freedoms and was from Quebec. So how do you make the argument this is anti-Quebec interpretation?
@erinotoole are you actively seeking to divide this nation? Me thinks you are.
And classic projection. Kenney, in his zeal to moralize addiction, closed safe injection sites that would have had addiction specialists to support addicts.
But it’s PM’s fault. Not the provincial govt who removed the safety net.
Not the fault of the provincial govt that transferred all the addiction recovery funds to religious based treatment centres who proselytize while condemning addicts poor choices, reverting to blaming a personal responsibility failure vs a medical condition for addiction.
Kenney is killing people with vile cruel policy. 900 addicts, over 800 COVid patients.
How many seniors who had medication changes forced by a policy change? How many hospital patients who can’t receive adequate care because of rampant illness spreading in AB?
Shocking changes are a method of installing far right paleolibertarianism.
If people would take the time to read Nancy Maclean’s book Democracy in Chains, you would be able to recognize a pattern.
Included is the history of the Chilean fascist regime headed by Pinochet. There are two podcast episodes that relate this history quite well. Please listen to them.
