In Sept 2018, 27 y/o father-of-three, #HardelSherrell, died in jail.

Today, Hardel would have turned 30.

Sherrell's mother, Del Shea Perry, filed a lawsuit claiming wrongful death, medical malpractice, and constitutional rights violations.

Hardel Sherrell’s story is a microcosm of the bias that Black Americans face in institutions across the USA, including medical systems both inside and outside of jails and prisons.

This summer, a whistleblowing nurse’s complaints were unearthed.

They stated that pleas for getting #HardelSherrell proper medical care were ignored, with the jail’s lead doctor saying Sherrell was ‘faking’ his illness, from which he died just days later. unicornriot.ninja/2020/whistlebl…

Dr. Todd Leonard was the lead doctor in Sherrell's case.

Leonard runs correctional healthcare provider MEnD Correctional Care. MEnD is contracted by dozens of counties in MN to provide medical care inside jails.

After the nurse's letter emerged, DOC's lead inspector resigned.

#HardelSherrell leaves behind 3 daughters & family/friends mourning his loss.

He died a tortuous death of medical neglect in jail, suffering from an undiagnosed case of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare condition that attacks the nervous system.

Sherrell would've turned 30 today.

Minneapolis Police killed a man this evening by fatally shooting him while he was in a car in the Holiday gas station parking lot at 36th Street and Cedar Avenue.

In a somewhat contentious press conference near the scene, Minneapolis Police PIO, Jon Elder said

"At 6:15 p.m. Wednesday evening. Officers from the Minneapolis Police Department were engaged in traffic stop with a felony suspect. During this stop, gunfire was exchanged...

...The adult male in the vehicle, the felony suspect, was struck. The adult female passenger in the vehicle is uninjured. The officers are uninjured. MN-BCA is on their way to the scene. They will take over all aspects of the investigation." - MPD PIO Jon Elder [thread]

On this day two years ago, December 6, 2018, we reported from Athens, Greece as heavy clashes occurred between thousands of police and black-clad protesters took place on the 10-year anniversary of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos being killed by Greek police in #Exarcheia.

The 2008 police killing of Alexis Grigoropoulos sparked a massive insurrectionary revolt in #Athens with weeks of riots that were the largest in Europe since 1968.

St. Paul, MN: Protest March After Police Shooting of Joseph Washington pscp.tv/w/cpl1IDFheVFW…

On Nov 30, St. Paul police responding to a car crash on Rice & Maryland pursued the passenger of the vehicle, Joseph Washington, who was reported as having been naked & under the influence of drugs.

A responding officer used his firearm to shoot Washington, who is a Black man.

The officer that shot Washington has reportedly been fired by St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell for utilizing his firearm instead of other, less-lethal methods used by the other officers.

Officers let a K-9 onto the naked Washington, tasered him, and shot him with live rounds.

Isak Aden, One Year Later: A Life Stolen by Police

Family files $20M lawsuit on 1-yr anniversary.

Ofcr Moseng, who was speaking on phone with Aden as he was fatally shot by police, pushed 2 #JusticeForIsak protesters during the 1-yr event.

Isak Aden was a 23 y/o college student, entrepreneur, & father figure to his younger siblings when he was killed by police in Eagan, MN, on July 2, 2019.

He had immigrated to the US w/ his grandma after both his parents died in the Somali civil war.

Responding to a disputed domestic disturbance call, nearly 100 officers from a slew of south suburban police depts – including the South Metro SWAT unit, 4 snipers, three K-9 units, an MRAP, & 2 Bearcats – quickly surrounded #IsakAden in a parking lot off HWY 13 in Eagan.

We were surprised to learn the DNR aviation fleet had been tasked with resupplying riot police on the ground w/ munitions and supplies.

Emails referencing “1600 pounds of cargo” were sent on May 28, the third straight day of #GeorgeFloyd protests in Minnesota.

Minneapolis Safariland distributor Kevin Degel and DNR Forestry Pilot Steven Day coordinated rush deliveries of tear gas and other munitions to MN police.
