#AgituGudeta is trending in Italy, after she was found in her home, beaten to death, over a dispute regarding money. The perpetrator took advantage of her body the few moments before the light disappeared from her eyes.
She had found a home in Trentino, after leaving Ethiopia because her pastoral land was taken by multinational corporations. But in Italy, she faced continued hostilities: "They insult me, they call me ugly n*****. They tell me to leave because this is not my place," she had said.
She was an entrepreneur, had founded an organic farm where she produced fresh goat's cheese, yogurt and milk. She was known as 'the queen of the happy goats'.
Her story is emblematic of our racist, misogynist, and capitalist society - let's honour her life, and remember one woman's strength through it all.
