Like i mentioned above, most of us have our NIN numbers, but we don't know because we didn't register with @nimc_ng directly, they got our data from our banks through our BVN.
So this is how it works:
If you have a Bank account/BVN before 2016, there is a 70% chance you have your NIN number, that is why when you go to register for your NIN they ask for your BVN number. Because they will first confirm if you already have the NIN number.

if the number (sim) you opened the account with is still available, dial *346# to retrieve the NIN number, use the NIN number retrieved to link your sim, use the codes below depending on your telecommunication provider:
1. To know your NIN number dial *346#.
2. To link it with @MTNNG dial ( *785#).
3. To link with @AirtelNigeria dial ( * 121 *1#).
4. To link with @9mobileng dial ( * 200 * 8#)

5. To link with @GLO__NIG . Send " UPDATE NIN , NIN NUMBER, first name ,last name " to (109) .
Eg: "UPDATE NIN, 12345678901, Abdullahi Muaz Raihan" to 109.

As for your slip/ID card: for now all you need is the NIN number to link your sim with, the ID card hasn't been issued since like 2012 (if im not mistaken) as always nigerian thing. But you can get your temporary slip, sometimes colored or photocopy, laminate it & life goes on.
Avoid the crowd, COVID-19 is real, do this and stay at home, for those that are not lucky enough, Goodluck and stay safe out there.
Avoid your sim being blocked.
