A Legendary Soldier, Mountaineer & Saviour Col Narendra 'Bull' Kumar, #PVSM, #KirtiChakra #AVSM (Retd) passed away earlier today 31 Dec 2020 in New Delhi

Col Narendra Kumar will be remembered for being an exceptional mountaineer and his contribution to the security of India.
A 'Mountain legend', he successfully led expedition to Nine peaks above 24,000 feet, out of 13 of the highest peak climbed by Indians.
In 1977, he and his team climbed Kanchenjunga from the North East spur, which was not done in 45 years since a German expedition in 1931, which only reached short of 3000 feet from the summit.
Colonel Kumar led three premier mountaineering institutes of the country, as Principal, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling; Principal, National Ski School, Gulmarg, and Commandant of High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS), at Gulmarg.
Prior to India's pre-emptive mobilisation of troops to Siachen Glacier in April 1984 part of #OpMeghdoot, it was Col Narendra Kumar's expedition which sounded out the Government of India of Pakistan trying to make moves around the Karakoram.
Col Kumar skied down all the passes on the Siachen Glacier, including Bila-Fondla, Saltoro Pass, Sia-La, Turkistan-La, Indira-Col and Pass Italia and led successful expeditions to Saltoro Kangri (25,400 feet) the highest in Eastern Karakoram.

A grateful nation had awarded him the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, #KirtiChakra, #PadmaShri, Ati Vishist Seva Medal, Arjuna Award

The Gallant #IndianBrave served in Delta (Tripura) Sector and returned to flying Alize Anti Submarine Aircraft.
It was during one such operational mission to locate the INS Khukri, Lt Cdr Roy of INAS 310 (Cobras) was shot down and went Missing in Action over the Arabian Sea, #OnThisDay 10-11 December 1971.

The gallant #IndianBrave didn't return after his aircraft was shot down #OnThisDay 10 December in 1971
During the operations against Pakistan in December1971, Sqn Ldr Jain was serving with a Fighter Bomber Squadron in the Western Sector. On the 4th December, 1971, he carried out two strike missions over Mianwali airfield and attacked enemy aircraft parked on the ground
As he turned homeward after the attack, he was attacked by enemy Sabre and Mirage aircraft. He successfully disengaged himself from the enemy attack and brought his aircraft safely back to base.

Capt Mulla was commanding the 14th anti submarine sqn, a task force which formed part of the Western Fleet.
The sqn consisted of the INS Khukri (F149), INS Kirpan (F144) & INS Kuthar (F146). The sqn was tasked to hunt & destroy enemy submarines in the North Arabian Sea
At 2050 hours on 09 December 1971, INS Khukri, was hit by a torpedo fired by an enemy submarine, PNS Hangor, about 64 kms off Diu.

The #BravestOfTheBrave laid the groundwork for victory with his life at Gangasagar
Lance Naik Albert Ekka was in the left forward company of a battalion of the Brigade of Guards during their attack on the enemy defences at Gangasagar on the Eastern front. This was a well-fortified position held in strength by the enemy.
The assaulting troops were subjected to intense shelling and heavy small-arms fire, but they charged onto the objective and were locked in bitter hand-to-hand combat. L/Nk Ekka noticed an enemy light machine-gun (LMG) inflicting heavy casualties on his company.

As a Rifleman, Lance Havildar Dil Bahadur Chhetri, #MahaVirChakra led a daring khukri charge eliminating 8 Pakistani soldiers at Atgram, during the Battle of Sylhet, December 1971.
4/5 #GorkhaRifles (FF) was given the specific task of clearing a well-fortified Medium Machine Gun (MMG) enemy post at Atgram. Then Rifleman Chhetri, with complete disregard to his personal safety, fought fearlessly, charged the bunker, killed eight enemy troops with his khukri

In October 1947, soon after the partition, thousands of raiders assisted by Pakistani regulars invaded J & K all along its border. Brigadier Rajendra Singh, Chief of Military Staff, J & K State Forces took over the command of a relief column and proceeded to check the raiders.
Another column with all available troops (nearly 100) was dispatched on 23 Oct 1947 to join Brig Singh with orders from Maharaja Hari Singh “Brigadier Rajendra Singh is commanded to hold the enemy at Uri at all costs and to the last man...“ #LestWeForgetIndia🇮🇳
