What's needed for #SBC2021 🧵: 1/ Motion to establish an independent #SBCTruthandJustice Commission on Sexual Abuse in the #SBC, with 7 Comm'n members to be initially named by @BozT, and to be people who are not affiliated with any SBC church or entity.

2/ The function of Comm'n shall be to A) create a safe & transparent process to receive, assess & document reports of sexual abuse committed by any pastor, minister, deacon or staff - current or past - paid, interim or volunteer - of any church or entity affiliated with SBC;

3/ B) report to civil authorities as needed; C) publicly name credibly-accused #SBC sex abusers; D) serve as an info resource for local churches; E) conduct outreach to #SBCtoo survivors; & F) publish periodic reports naming people & context of abuse complicity & cover-ups...

4/ ...in SBC-affiliated churches & entities. Though acting on behalf of SBC, the Comm'n shall function independently of SBC Exec Comm & of any & all churches & entities of SBC.

Comm'n shall also have power to make recommendations to SBC & to SBC-affiliated churches & entities...

5/ ...for A) the payment of counseling stipends & reimbursements for #SBCtoo survivors, B) the making of specific public institutional apologies to those victimized by clergy sex abuse & institutional complicity, & C) better practices for accountability, prevention & care.

6/ SBC Exec Comm shall fully fund Comm'n for a period of at least 7 yrs, with payment to Comm'n members on a professional hourly contract basis. Commission is authorized to hire investigators, clerical staff, research assistants & consultants, as needed to accommodate work load.

7/ SBC Executive Committee shall prioritize & fund all staffing for Commission, unless Exec Comm affirmatively shows staffing to be patently unreasonable.

When vacancies occur on the #SBCTruthandJustice Commission, the remaining members shall have the power to name replacements.

8/ A church’s failure to cooperate with the work of the #SBCTruthandJustice Commission may be considered as grounds for disfellowshipping.
