Since manifesting trust across all demographic groups is essential to a successful vaccination campaign, I hope Biden camp will figure out ways to have COVID-responsible Republicans like Romney be a visible part of the communications/logistics push.
Romney's idea of using birthdays plus tiers as the way to organize vaccinations is interesting, reminiscent of how gas was rationed in the Carter era, by odd/even license plate numbers.
The idea of calling up retired doctors/nurses, plus EMTs, former medics, vets—basically anyone who's ever used a syringe—would have the knock-on effect of restoring/manifesting community trust, both within and across demographic groups.
Romney is entirely right that expecting distribution to be managed by hospitals, doctor's offices and CVSs is asinine. We need mass vaccination MASH units, basically. Where patients can be monitored for 15-30 post vaccination for any rare reactions which are easily treated
I'm also open to the idea of paying or otherwise rewarding people who get a vaccination. Inject a little grease into the economy along with creating vaccine-enabled herd immunity.
Ditto rewards (+payment) for those who help to vaccinate. Starting with getting a vaccination themselves.
How much training does it take to administer a vaccine? I don't know but if we don't have enough active or retired docs/RNs/medics/EMTs/vets to do it, I suggest we start training people asap.
Obviously the National Guard, and maybe even the military, should be deployed to build, staff these local/regional vaccine MASH units... LFG
And Biden should not hesitate to use the Defense Production Act to ensure any part of vaccine supply chain, the vaccines themselves, the vials, syringes, anything else is being made as quickly as is absolutely possible.
Honestly I think so many Americans would pitch in to help give shots, bring people to vaccination centers, whatever is needed, if they were just given some instructions and perhaps a slight incentive.
Victory gardens, but for vaccines.
Like, I'd take time off to pitch in...doing whatever! I'd buy a pig leg and some syringes and practice, or just run a check-in table or ferry people to vax centers.
Say we give $250? $500? to everybody who gets vaccinated. But maybe there's also a Golden Ticket/lottery where a few lucky people get more?
We should be leveraging every bit of psychology we know to get this done
And yes, lets leverage celebrities. Not just showing them getting vaccinated, though that is probably important to do, but what if @StephenCurry30 or @taylorswift13 or whomever was elbow bumping folks who'd been vaccinated? Or asking fans to volunteer to pitch in?
There is a volunteer medical corps people can join. In addition to retired practitioners, seems like people trained in logistics are needed. Lots of logistics in magazine production! Or parenting. :)
This is illegal, immoral, but also Trump seems incredibly unteathered to reality, even the reality that he and his cronies have constructed washingtonpost.com/politics/trump…
Here is some of the audio. My god. Also congrats to @BenSasse@HurdOnTheHill and the others who are now alarmed at the kind of illegal pressure he is applying to the GOP, but who looked the other way when he did the same to President of Ukraine washingtonpost.com/video/politics…
And once again I want to note that Mark Meadows is bolstering Trump’s worst acts and impulses
1/ Like most non-profits, a big chunk of @MotherJones revenues come from year-end donations, when people are thinking about what they can give (and deduct). Some are unable to give this year, which makes us more reliant on those who can. Maybe you? secure.motherjones.com/flex/mj/key/7L…
2/ Here, @MonikaBauerlein makes a great pitch about all the great work we do, and how important reader-supported journalism is. But I'd like to add another reason to give: Because Facebook is destroying democracy and targeting MoJo in particular:
3/ You know that Facebook is:
✅pushing disinformation
✅robbing media of revenue
✅promoting far-right "news" sites.
But did you know that they're ACTIVELY taking steps to suppress @MotherJones content IN PARTICULAR? motherjones.com/media/2020/10/…
"I was laid off in August—I’d been working at Golden Gate Park, for Rec and Parks. And it looks like I’m going to run out of unemployment soon. The city is saying they have a deficit of millions of dollars, so these jobs are not going to open again."
"I had a job of 12 years, doing basic office work for a big accounting firm downtown...Then I got the dreaded Zoom call....They give a good amount of food. It was heavy —and I was in the Marines.I wasn’t embarrassed. It’s easy not to be embarrassed when you have a mask on"
I think the “I fell in love with a sociopath I was supposed to be bloodlessly covering and now he won’t return my emails, but I still love him” is a play for life rights $$, pure and simple.
NYC/LA needs at least 3-5 of these a year.
Yawn
I would also love to see a diagram of the interlocking agents/publishers—and, most importantly, their other key clients—pushing out this story.
Anywho, people who betray their professional ethics because they are (or pretend to be) besotted with a sociopath who, tellingly is wary of the fame machine, you’re ginning up for profit/sympathy, maybe shouldn’t be given massive MSM oxygen?
