*Some* people seemed confused about my rage at Garland for AG, so let me put this where the goats can get it:
When you are in power BECAUSE black people put you there, then you pick an AG with a RECORD OF HOLDING POLICE ACCOUTNABLE. Not a milquetoast compromise white prosecutor.
You LISTEN to voices in the Black community, like @Sifill_LDF and @TheRevAl, when they meet with you and tell you to pick somebody who will SIGNLE to the Black community that you have their back against these police terrorists.
You understand that of ALL your cabinet picks, your AG is the one who has to HONOR the desperate protests in the streets that Trump spent the past year denigrated.
YOU PAY IT THE FUCK FORWARD
Garland. Does. NONE OF THIS. His nomination, right on the heels of Black people GIVING HIM THE POWER to nominate ANY AG available, is a slap in the goddamn face to... THE ACTUAL BASE of the Democratic Party.
Put another way: LOOK AT WHAT REPUBLICANS DO. Their AG picks are almost ALWAYS the most spitting racists they can FIND. They're AGs are always a base pick. Somebody to excite the base and prove to them that the GOP is on their side of the culture war.
The Garland pick is the EXACT OPPOSITE of that. Instead of rewarding the base, Biden is using it to placate moderates and institutionalists. He has no record on civil rights, and no record on standing up the police... who I'll remind you SHOOT US IN THE BACK AND FACE NO CHARGES.
Also, while we're here, I really don't appreciate people telling me to give Garland "a chance" when those people haven't actually READ HIS OPINIONS on issues with the police.
He's deferential to police power, almost uninformedly. WHICH IS NOT WHAT THE MOMENT DEMANDS.
ANYWAY... I like Gupta and Clarke and the rest of the team. This is how it's going to be with Biden for four years.

Things we knew about @realDonaldTrump before yesterday:
* He tried to delegitimize a Black president with a racist trope.
* He called for the execution of Black teenagers who were innocent.
* 26 women accused him of sexual misconduct, following an M.O. he admitted to on tape.
* He created a religious test for entry into the United States.
* He tried to build a racist wall by declaring a fake national emergency and stole billions from the defense budget.
* He ordered the kidnapping and caging of babies, and didn't keep track of their parents.
* He praised a Klan rally which killed a woman.
* He promised to pay the legal fees of his supporters who beat up people at his rallies.
* He declared the American media the "enemy of the people."
* He encouraged police to rough up people who were under arrest.
Literally every Black person who has ever protested right now: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? They're gonna let white people take over the Capitol but will shoot me to protect a fucking TARGET?
I ONCE HAD THREE COPS SURROUND ME FOR BLOCKING A WALKING PATH ON CAMBRIDGE COMMON
How many of these white people will even be arrested??
Here are the states with the most Black people as a %age of the population (%age)
Washington DC (45.99%)
Mississippi (38.40%)
Louisiana (33.43%)
Georgia (31.47%)
Maryland (31.23%)
Alabama (27.19%)
South Carolina (26.91%)
Delaware (23.08%)
North Carolina (21.97%)
Virginia (20.48%)
The only reason the GOP is a nationally viably party in its current overtly bigoted form is that they keep Black people demobilized and suppressed through gerrymandered control of state govs and keep white people in lockstep with the white supremacy agenda in many of these states
But if there is any slippage in either of these factors. If white people do even *slightly* better than they have historically and you can register and mobilize black people, you destroy the GOP map.
I screwed up big time. 5yo comes in an sees a lottery ticket. “What’s that?” Sensing a teachable moment, I say “That, is a waste of money. We could have bought 8 lollipops or a bag of jelly beans, but we wasted it on that ticket to try to win more money.”
He runs off
About an hour later he comes back with tears streaming down his face, clutching the ticket. “What’s wrong little dude?” I ask.
“WHY DID YOU WASTE OUR MONEY ON THIS TICKET!? I would have taken the jelly beans!”
I felt awful.
Luckily my wife found a bag of jelly beans from somewhere and said “oh, well we spent YOUR share on jelly beans. We just wasted our share.”
This stopped the crying at least. But now he’s CONVINCED that I’m a fucking idiot who cannot be trusted with money.
