Joshua 1:8 says, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt...
...make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success".
Memorizing the scriptures has a plethora of benefits but a few include;
A. Helps you exercise your mind to retain the word of God.
B. It equips you for the evil day (reference: Jesus in the wilderness).
In this thread, you'll learn very practical but simple tips and or steps to effective memorization of the scriptures.
1. READ THE BIBLE!
The best way to get the right verse to memorize is by reading the Bible itself. The Holy Spirit will guide you to a striking verse.
When you find it, recite it undertone repeatedly by heart. This is the beginning of meditation.
2. SPEAK SCRIPTURE ALOUD!
After repeatedly reciting undertone, speak it out loud or shout it repeatedly.
This will help drive it into your heart.
Isaiah 55:11 says, "so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire...
3. WRITE OUT BIBLE VERSES!
After shouting it loud repeatedly, write it out. The temptation to type on your digital device is high but choose to rather write.
Writing it out means recollecting from your memory. You can reference with what you read to ensure you're on course.
4. PLACE SCRIPTURE PURPOSEFULLY!
Intentionally place what you've written in strategic locations around you, where you can easily see it.
For instance, you can stick them in your car, bathroom mirror, office desk, dressing mirror, etc.
It must be easily noticeable!
5. PRAY WITH IT!
The most important step is to pray with the scripture. Whiles praying, quote the scripture and pray along with it.
This is a spiritual activity as it helps to drive it into your Spirit.
BONUS: WEAR IT!
To make your memorization even more exciting to do, have the scripture printed on a shirt, hat, wristband, footwear or anything wearable.
With this, you carry the scripture everywhere with you and always have it in focus.
Dear brethren, the word of God has to be in your consciousness to produce results in your life.
When it's in your consciousness, it'll be in your mouth; and the word in your mouth is a creative force.
I received lots of messages from around the world on how to study the Bible using verses.
I.e. How to have a better understanding of a particular verse of scripture and I thought to share in this thread.
In this thread, you'll be informed on; 1. How to start studying a verse 2. How to connect it to other verses
For the purpose of this thread, we'll use Genesis 1:1 as case study.
1. CHOOSE THE VERSE!
As simple as this may sound, you have to be led by the Spirit to the right verse to study. Of course, you could also select a verse you believe you need more insight into.
Case study: Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
It'll guide your walk with God and you'll get a better understanding of the kind of choices you make.
Matthew 4:1-11 talks about the 3 temptations of Jesus in the wilderness.
But do you know those temptations were just a refined form...
...of what happened in the garden of Eden?
Let's dig in!
The strategies of Satan hasn't changed over the period and that includes his temptations. He may disguise or refine them but it doesn't change and so Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 2:11 that, "Lest Satan should...
...get an advantage of us: for WE ARE NOT IGNORANT OF HIS DEVICES."
The temptations of Satan to Jesus in the wilderness is the same temptation to Adam/Eve in the garden of eden, and it's the same to man today!
Quick tips for anyone that wants to pray for longer!
The length you spend in prayer tells a lot about your Spiritual stamina.
It's a fact that the state of your heart is important in prayer but it's equally important the duration you spend in prayer.
If you truly understand what prayer is (fellowship with God) and its benefits, you'd stress on the importance of the length, as much as the state of the heart.
These are 5 simple but effective tips to help you stay longer in prayer.
1. Tell the Holy Spirit how long you want...
...to pray and He'll help you. He enjoys your fellowship and so He always helps you (John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth...)
2. Don't start with fresh or high energy. Start with minimal energy and you'll gradually increase it. It's a marathon not 100m race.
